Job Overview:
The Creative Arts Therapist provides clinical groups/assessments to adult inpatients throughout their treatment.
The Creative Arts Therapist is responsible for providing creative art therapies of art, music, recreation, or dance to best serve the needs of adult psychiatric inpatients.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Creative Arts Modality
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- Board certification in Art, Dance, Music, or Recreation Therapy
Scheduling Requirements:
Shift working, 8:00am 4:00pm or 11pm-7am
Coverage weekdays, weekends, some holidays
Per Diem (PD)
Essential Functions:
Assess social, perceptual, and physical skills, and re-creative resources according to discipline-specific standards
Develop treatment interventions both group and individual-oriented, utilizing an integrated theoretical framework to: elicit expression, communication, and response from verbally defended clients
Increase self-understanding and insight development through exploration of symbolic content in creative arts modality
Diagnostically elicit information not readily available through verbal assessment procedures
Develop self-esteem, problem-solving skills, organization, and risk-taking through creativity
Integrate and sequence the creative process
Resolve conflict through the use of creative art modalities
Teach relaxation techniques, when indicated
Utilize knowledge of resources to assist in leisure time planning
Participate in the management of crises as directed
Participate in treatment planning meetings, program participant/staff meetings, and group and community meetings as required
Contribute to the formation, carrying out, and updating of treatment plans elaborated by the staff
Report behavioral and/or physical changes in condition to the program director and according to policy and procedure
Maintain open channels of communication with associates, participants, and families; works within a multifamily group as appropriate
Document participation and reactions during creative arts therapies and evaluates therapeutic effects
Work in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in providing the highest standards of patient care
