About This Role We are seeking a temporary Senior Animal Technician who will be responsible for monitoring daily animal health and welfare while performing animal husbandry duties to maintain the quality and health of our animals in our Animal Facility. The Animal Facility team focuses on animal husbandry, animal genetics, research and operations. The ideal candidate is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in animal husbandry. This role reports to the Senior Engineer, Animal Facility. This is an onsite position based out of our Animal Facility in Emeryville. This is a 5-month temporary position which will begin on 12/27/2024. The working hours for this position are 7am-4pm PT, with the flexibility to start earlier if preferred. This role will require flexibility to work on the weekends and holidays as needed based on rotation. What You'll Do * Clean cages and equipment. * Monitor the health and well-being of the animals and provide food and water. * Maintain animal records. * Collect data daily and enter the data into databases. * Perform inseminations, draw blood and perform injections. * Assist scientists with their projects and assist with hatching. * Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain records to comply with regulatory requirements. * Adhere to biosecurity measures. * Participate in team building activities. * Perform other duties as required. What You Bring * English fluency. * High School Diploma and a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience. * Experience with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in animal husbandry. * Experience with safety requirements and animal handling best practices. * Computer proficiency. * Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. * Ability to be creative and use latitude as needed. * Ability to utilize experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Nice to Have * Bilingual skills in English/Spanish. * Animal Technician Certificate or similar. The base compensation range for this position is $24 - $30 per hour. The range provided is an estimate. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, experience, education, location, and other factors permitted by law.
