UPMC Sr. Professional Staff Nurse, Cardiac Cath Lab in Erie, Pennsylvania

UPMC Hamot is hiring a Sr. Professional Staff Nurse to join the Cardiac Cath Lab!

This position is full-time, Monday- Friday 7am-3:30pm or 8am-4:30pm. Occasional on-call coverage required.

Purpose: The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse who plays a crucial role in the care delivery team. They set the standards for care quality, hold responsibility and accountability for nursing care, and manage patient care activities. This role involves leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision, requiring independent judgment and effective communication with all team members. They maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve desired outcomes. Additionally, they demonstrate a commitment to the community and the nursing profession.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies opportunities for clinical quality and workplace improvement. Applies evidence-based practice regularly. Leads or participates in teams for patient care innovations and workforce health.

  • Serves as a role model in clinical expertise, teaching, specialized resource nursing, and evidence-based practice. Provides feedback to healthcare team members and participates in peer review.

  • Promotes changes to enhance patient care and unit environment. Demonstrates advanced clinical assessment and analytical skills.

  • Participates in shared governance and hospital-wide councils. Passionately develops others, precepts students, graduate nurses, and new hires.

  • Analyzes situations to identify learning opportunities for improving patient care. Seeks feedback and engages in continuous professional improvement.

  • Supports continuous learning by sharing research and presenting on the unit. Applies the nursing process within Relationship-Based Care to create a healing environment.

  • Formulates patient care goals and plans involving patients as partners. Practices effective communication and critical thinking in patient care. Incorporates organizational goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction. Builds healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

  • Maintains a healthy workplace by addressing cultural awareness and preventing horizontal violence. Balances work and personal life through prioritization and delegation.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience required; BSN preferred.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care. Understands growth and development principles across the lifespan.

  • Assesses and interprets patient data to meet age-specific needs.

  • Must achieve and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on performance evaluations.

  • Establishes positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, staff, and patients/families. Works effectively in complex environments with changing priorities and specialized equipment.

  • Exhibits exemplary clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrates mobility, visual manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of hire/transfer.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Act 34

  • UPMC approved nursing certification preferred. Annual completion of a professional contributions selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by Unit Director or UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained. Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification.

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
