Job Description Summary
GE Aviation’s Hybrid Electric Mechanical Design team is developing components for future advanced propulsion systems. The Advanced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will play a critical role in the Hybrid Electric team, demonstrating leadership in developing advanced technologies, executing business priorities, operational strategy, and engaging across GE globally and with industrial and academic partners. The Advanced Lead Design Engineer contributes directly to GE Aviation’s hybrid electric capability including the development of the joint NASA Electric Powertrain Flight Demonstrator program and GE’s RISE (Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engines) program.
The engineer in this role will lead the design of test enabling hardware and test enabling systems that support the testing of hybrid electric systems for both EPFD and RISE. They will own the design, manufacturing, and assembly for the applicable hardware and systems. This engineer will also support motor/generator component design, as well as installation in the test cell and support the machine integration into the airframe application.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Design drivetrain system/components for integration into a Hybrid driveline system to support electrified propulsion.
Own prototype parts including all aspects of design, analysis, drawings and manufacturing.
Develop new applications of technology for product development of electrical power generation, conversion, transmission and distribution components and systems for advanced aviation applications.
Partner with mechanical and thermal, manufacturing and test teams to advance the development of hybrid electric systems.
May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on particular topics. May guide others to consider a different point of view.
Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years' prior work experience in aerospace power generation and conversion products, aviation electrical power system, high frequency electro-magnetic design, embedded controls for power electronics, and transient/dynamic electric system theory and analysis.
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
Desired Characteristics
Strong technical background in Component Development.
Previous experience with hybrid electric machines is a plus.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
Established project management skills.
