Computer Systems Engineer I

Where you’ll work:

This is a hybrid onsite/remote opportunity where you will report to the customer location in Falls Church, VA and have the flexibility to work from home based on business needs.

An average day:

As Computer Systems Engineer I, you will focus on developing and maintaining a robust computing environment that supports organizational needs. This role involves assisting in the design, deployment, and optimization of systems to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability. In this position you will:

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to implement system design and architecture solutions in alignment with project goals

  • Assist in configuring and maintaining servers, network components, and related infrastructure

  • Contribute to the development of scripts and tools to automate routine tasks and improve operational efficiency

  • Help monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine diagnostics to identify areas for improvement

  • Support the integration of security measures into existing systems, ensuring data protection and compliance

  • Participate in the implementation of continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for software deployments

  • Provide basic technical guidance to internal teams on system functionality and best practices

  • Document system configurations, processes, and updates to support knowledge sharing across the organization

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data engineering initiatives and pipeline optimizations

  • Assist in testing and validating new features, updates, and system enhancements as part of QA processes

  • Help maintain standards and best practices for system design, coding, and documentation

  • Engage in ongoing learning and training programs to enhance technical skills and stay updated with emerging technologies

  • Assist in Cloud Infrastructure Management – Support the deployment and maintenance of cloud-based environments, ensuring scalability, security, and cost optimization in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

  • Support Incident Response and Disaster Recovery Planning – Help develop and test system recovery procedures to minimize downtime and data loss in the event of failures or cyber incidents.

  • Contribute to System Performance Optimization – Analyze system logs, identify performance bottlenecks, and work with senior engineers to implement optimizations that enhance efficiency and reliability

Basic Qualifications:

  • As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C) , Epsilon will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.

  • At least 1 year of experience in a computer systems engineering or related technical support role, involving basic system configuration and troubleshooting tasks.

  • DOD 8570 IAT Level II Certification may be required (GSEC, GICSP, CND, CySA+, Security+ CE, SSCP or CCNA-Security).

  • Foundational knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems, including file systems, user management, and basic networking principles (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS).

  • Exposure to at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell), with the ability to write simple automation scripts or tooling.

  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) for code management, including branching, merging, and basic repository maintenance.

  • Awareness of cloud computing services (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP), such as basic compute, storage, and networking offerings.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn emerging technologies, develop new skills, and adapt to evolving project requirements in a fast-paced environment.

  • Basic ability to identify, analyze, and resolve common hardware, software, or network-related issues.

  • Understanding of core security concepts—like user authentication, data encryption, and access controls—to help maintain compliance and protect systems.

  • Knowledge of continuous integration/continuous delivery practices, pipelines, and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI), with hands-on experience being a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail, effective communication abilities, and the capacity to work productively in cross-functional teams while maintaining a continuous improvement mindset.

  • One or more of the following certifications are desired: AWS Certified Developer, Databricks, Agile/Scrum, Python Programme

Other:

  • Must hold an Active DOD Secret, Top Secret or TS/SCI Clearance

  • Must be located within a two (2) hour commute of the physical work location
