WestRock Company Pulp Mill Supervisor in Fernandina Beach, Florida

The Opportunity:

The Pulp Mill Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the back-end Kraft process - including safety, quality, production, costs, environmental control and employee relations. Areas of responsibility include Power and Recovery, Caustic, Pulp Mill and the Woodyard. Also has mill-wide responsibilities for prioritizing shift maintenance and responding to emergencies.

This position is located onsite at the Fernandina Beach, FL Mill

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock

  • Leads safety efforts on shift to prevent injuries, eliminate hazards, improve housekeeping and comply with all applicable regulations and mill policies

  • Implements improvement initiatives, corrects unsafe conditions and responds to safety concerns to ensure a safe and healthy working environment

  • Supervises approximately 20 operators on shift and manages employee performance and promotes teamwork by providing appropriate coaching and training to ensure reliable performance and compliance with environmental, safety and quality requirements

  • Sets production rates and coordinates/directs grade changes to optimize profitability minimize downtime, and balance conditions in Utilities, Power, Liquor, and Machine areas

  • Maintains quality and environmental parameters within prescribed limits, basing decisions on operating conditions and trends

  • Ensures that required testing occurs on schedule and in an appropriate manner

  • Completes daily report incorporating all operating and equipment changes that will be useful to other supervisors and shift personnel in the department

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, company policies and WestRock\u2019s Standard of Ethics and Code of Corporate Conduct

    What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor\u2019s degree in mechanical, or chemical engineering or equivalent industrial paper manufacturing experience.

  • 10+ years\u2019 experience in a Kraft Pulp and Paper Mill, or equivalent technical and educational background, preferred.

  • Solid knowledge of power, recovery, caustic, pulp mill and woodyard processes.

  • Customer focus: must be dedicated to meeting expectations and requirements of internal and external customers

  • Technical Skills: Must possess the knowledge and skills to do the job to a high level of accomplishment.

  • Leadership Skills: Must be able to motivate others and to clearly assign responsibility and set clear objectives to achieve results.

  • Problem Solving Skills: Must be able to solve difficult problems with effective solutions.
