Job Title: Distribution Engineer

Job Description

Individual will be responsible for independently developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for electric utility customers. The bulk of the work will be overhead. The individual will review work provided by the client and assess requirements of the scopes. Depending on available support, they may or may not conduct their own field work. As the fielding team is built, less field work will be required. Field work will involve taking photos and measurements of specific sites, which will then be used to create designs for the final package. The design will be completed using Open Utilities. The candidate will perform an energy analysis to ensure the selected materials meet the required usage of the site, and will build a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered into SAP/Material Tracking Software. The candidate may also assist with permits needed for utility lines to cross roads, easements, private property, or tree cutting orders where new lines will run. Once photos, measurements, designs, BOM, and permits are completed, the candidate will submit the electrical construction package for approval and make any necessary revisions before it is submitted to the client. Additional software like PoleForman or PLA/Pole Loading Analysis may be used for structural analysis of wood poles. Knowledge of or experience working with National Electric Safety Codes (NESC) is required. Frequent communication via email, phone, and Teams with the client will be necessary.

Hard Skills

• Electrical Engineering Degree or entry-level design degree with an associate's in design

Job Type

This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 9 Month(s).

Work Site

This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in FLINT, Michigan and some days remote.

Work Environment

Work will be a combination of locations depending on where the candidate lives. The client is looking to have employees support the following locations: South (Hamilton, Coldwater, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek/Lansing, Jackson/Adrian/South Monroe), East (West Branch, Clare, Saginaw/Bay City/Alma, Flint), and West (Traverse City/Benzie/Boyne, Grand Rapids, Greenville/North Kent, Muskegon/Fremont, Cadillac/Big Rapids/Ludington). If a candidate lives near a Wade Trim office (Gaylord, Bay City, Flint, and Grand Rapids), they will be asked to go into the office 2-3 days a week. If they do not live near these offices, they will work completely remote besides the field work.
