Job Title: Distribution Design Engineer ---- 100% remote

Job Description

This individual will be responsible for independently developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for electric utility customers. The bulk of the work will be overhead. The individual will review work provided by the client and assess requirements of the scopes. They will receive field work information that will be used to create designs for the final package. The role may also involve assisting with potential permits needed for utility lines to cross roads, easements, private property, or orders to have certain trees cut down where the new lines will run. The individual will use Poleforman or PLA/Pole Loading Analysis or similar software to provide structural analysis for wood pole integrity and determine if replacement is needed. This software will also help with wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker. The individual should have knowledge of or experience working with National Electric Safety Codes (NESC). They will work with a designated final Quality Control approver on any necessary changes or revisions before the final electrical distribution design package is submitted to the end client. There will be frequent communication via e-mail, phone, and Teams with the client.

Hard Skills

• 6+ months of Electrical Design experience (Open Utilities preferred, but AutoCAD, Bentley, Microstation, or other packages acceptable)

• 6+ months of power distribution engineering or design experience, or make-ready or joint use connected to power or utility industry

• 6+ months of experience creating design packages or Bill of Materials (BOM) or electrical packages for construction crews

• Knowledge of National Electric Safety Codes (NESC)

• Associate's or Bachelor degree required

• Must hold a home residence in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois or Pennsylvania to be eligible for 100% remote position

Job Type

This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 9 Month(s). It comes with paid time off (vacation & holiday) while with Actalent The paid time off increases once you convert to a direct hire employee.

Work Site

This is 100% remote role, M-F. Will be required to travel to Flint, MI for first two days of training and to pick up required equipment to work remote from home. Travel cost will be reimbursed for the two day training.
