Community Health Systems Medical Lab Tech in FLOWOOD, Mississippi
Job Summary
Performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens under supervision by the section chief technologist. Insures accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program. Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department's policies and procedures. Maintains records and statistical data according to regulative requirements. Teaches new employees and students laboratory policies and procedures. Collects chain of custody urine drug screens as required. Assists as needed in all laboratory areas as required to maintain appropriate patient care.

Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two way communication with peers, staff, physicians, leaders, and administration.

Communicates appropriate information to lead staff member, supervisor, manager or director in a timely manner.

Completes required education in a timely manner.
Demonstrates population appropriate competencies for all relevant patient populations.
Accurately performs all moderate and high complexity testing assigned.
Completes and reports all test results in a timely manner with appropriate and accurate documentation.
Assures that quality control is performed as required.
Analyzes quality control data. Troubleshoots and corrects out of range results in a timely manner.
Performs instrument preventative maintenance procedures on a daily, weekly , and monthly basis as required and reports any malfunctions to the section supervisor.
Troubleshoots instrument malfunctions in a timely manner and attempts to correct problems by maintenance, repair, part replacement, or notifying the instrument manufacturer.
Effectively operate the Laboratory computer System for general laboratory and section specific functions.
Performs proficiency testing required for accreditation in a timely and accurate manner.
Communicates all instrument malfunctions, QC problems, unusual patient results, and unusual events to the section or shift supervisor.
Accepts extra assignments and phlebotomy duties. Assists co-workers in completing all department and shift duties.
Follows the Laboratory Safety plan by wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required and following the department safety regulations.
Accurately collects improvement performance data as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Associate Degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution required or
Technical School successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) preferred
Less than 2 years acute care experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong understanding of radiographic imaging principles, patient physiologic monitoring, and cardiac arrhythmias recognition.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage complex data for performance and quality improvement initiatives.
Ability to work independently within the scope of the role, ensuring patient safety and data accuracy.
Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
Ability to adhere to quality control and assurance requirements.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Familiarity with laboratory equipment and procedures.
Licenses and Certifications
MLT - Medical Technician - ASCP preferred or
Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)-AMT or equivalent certification required
