Siemens Energy Electrical Automation Engineer in Fort Collins, Colorado

A Snapshot of Your Day

The primary responsibilities of this position are to provide engineering and field commissioning support for control systems designed and installed on natural gas engines, compressors and generators, along with the associated support systems including waste heat recovery systems and facility operations. A successful candidate will have an informed and outstanding background in engineering principles and practices for electrical, mechanical, thermodynamic, and computer sciences. A solid understanding of internal combustion engines is helpful along with a desire to work in the field with various tools and test equipment to support installation and commissioning activities.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • The Electrical or Automation Engineer will provide onsite technical services to external customers for the commissioning, start-up, performance testing and troubleshooting of reciprocating compression equipment.

  • Ability to write detailed technical reports without grammatical errors.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Office Suite.

  • Working knowledge of at least one structured programming language.

  • Understanding of basic electrical measurement principles and test equipment.

  • Able to use small hand and power tools.

  • Understanding of NEC and IEEE code for electrical systems in hazardous locations.

  • Work settings will primarily be with reciprocating compression equipment in workshops, compression stations, process plants etc, ensuring that they meet emissions targets set by the customer. And monitor critical operating data to ensure that the engine and compressor units are functioning within the design parameters while working with mechanical and automation engineers to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.

  • Work within confined spaces, ascend/descend ladders and move items up to 50lbs in outdoor and indoor environments.

  • Foster an environment of safety and proactively report safety concerns.

  • Use standard Windows software such as AutoCAD to generate electrical panel layouts, schematics and BOM’s. And maintain project documentation, write test procedures and specifications.

  • Program various types of PLC’s, embedded controllers and operator interfaces.

  • Provide engineering information and technical expertise to internal and external customers.

  • Perform detailed analysis of engine/compressor control system data.

  • Communicate to project teams with daily project reports while in the field.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Automation Engineering or 5 years equivalent experience in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.

  • Ability to travel a minimum of 50% of the year.

  • Basic mechanical knowledge of reciprocating engines.

Preferred Experience:

  • Interest in programming

  • Experience working in the natural gas pipeline industry.

  • Experience working with emissions analyzers.

This job based out of Fort Collins, CO. Siemens Energy offers a variety of health and wellness benefits including paid time off and holiday pay. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, skills, certifications, and other business needs. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual’s qualifications.
