Summary About the Position: Serves as a Range Operations Specialist to ensure proper management of range operations in accordance with safety and Army regulation, policy and procedural guidance. Responsibilities Implements range operation functions directly related to the safe and efficient utilization of the Range Complex and Restricted Airspace in the use of high-risk weapons, ammunition, aviation and other hazardous materials on multiple training areas. During firings and gunneries, provides oversight on regulatory requirements pertaining to unit operations on the Range. Monitor firing and range activities on ranges and training areas, considering proximity, compatibility of systems, or to suspend operations if the safety of personnel is questionable. Monitor assigned restricted airspace using the Surveillance Tracking Acquisition Radar System (STARS) and guidance from Installation Air Traffic and Airspace Officer or G-3 Air. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Natural Resources, or Forest Resources. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
