Equipment Mechanic

This position is responsible for handling all necessary repairs, including the replacement of worn or damaged parts.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Provide regular service to include using jacks, cranes, and various handheld tools to dismantle and reassemble areas of heavy equipment.

  • Adjust engines, as well as any additional assemblies such as gear transmissions and hydraulic.

  • Examine critical parts and operating components of heavy equipment for possible wear and tear, defects, or other damages with use of specialized tools and also trained eye and ear.

  • Test equipment and machines on regular schedule to ensure things are operating efficiently and safely.

  • Clean all components using approved solvents formulated for heavy equipment.

  • Check for components and parts that need to be welded. Performing this job with a gas or electric welder.

  • All other duties required to keep the fleet in good working condition.

  • Perform work or operate vehicle/equipment where training and qualification has been provided while complying with all safety and health rules.

  • Reports all injuries or safety concerns to the Region Safety Supervisor or Management Immediately.

  • Report all incidents and near misses to Region Safety Supervisor or Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Able to:

  • operate and service all required tools and equipment. (i.e., bucket truck, line truck, boring machines, back hoes, track hoes, pick-up trucks, etc.)

  • work with hazardous tools, i.e., welding torch.

  • work around moving equipment and constricted spaces.

  • Possess own mechanic hand tools.

  • Willing and able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work).

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

  • Knowledge or Distribution Electrical Construction Equipment Preferred

  • Previous experience with Construction Equipment repair preferred.

Pre-Screen

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • Valid commercial driver license (CDL) preferred. Driver's License required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.

Physical Requirements:

  • RARE (less than 10%): walking, sitting, climbing poles, climbing ladders, climbing stairs.

  • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): kneeling, crawling, speaking clearly, climbing on/off truck, reading, hearing-speech range, color vision, carrying, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • FREQUENT (up to 66%): standing, stooping, squatting, body twisting, sense of touch, manual dexterity, seeing distant, gripping, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., reaching, range of motion, depth perception, balancing.

  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): seeing, lifting, lifting up to 10 lbs.

Safety

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
