Description

We are seeking a Senior Tradesworker to perform skilled and technical trades work focused on repairs and maintenance at Solid Waste facilities. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, HVAC, and general utilities and facilities maintenance.

Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of industry standards, methods, materials, and tools relevant to their trade. Additionally, familiarity with the applicable codes, rules, and regulations governing these tasks is essential for success in this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, HVAC, and other general utilities and facilities maintenance tasks.

  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and maintains buildings and equipment typical to facilities maintenance activities.

  • Works closely with maintenance supervision to coordinate repairs and oversee maintenance tasks provided by outside vendors and suppliers.

  • Works closely with maintenance supervision to maintain and inventory repair parts and tools and order parts as necessary for repairs.

  • Prepares work orders and reports and maintains clear & concise repair records; including data input of maintenance work into facility maintenance software.

  • May install, service, overhaul, and repair all sizes of mechanical air conditioning, heating, ventilating, and fixed refrigeration equipment, in addition to pumps, motors, conveyor belts, fans, thermostats, generators, compressors, pneumatic systems, and chillers.

  • May repair/replace street lights, scaling systems, and control system malfunctions.

  • May troubleshoot and repair plumbing/sewage problems, including plumbing systems for industrial use.

  • May prepare and paint interior/exterior surfaces and install drywall or create forms for concrete footings, slabs, and sidewalks; including sand blasting, pressure washing, etc.

  • May repair/replace lighting and/or electrical outlets in Solid Waste facilities; troubleshoot electrical problems & make appropriate repairs or monitor outside vendor repairs.

  • May diagnose processing equipment problems, including repair of control panel components and PLC systems, and perform shutdown/re-setting of systems.

  • May monitor fire security system, including troubleshooting problems and re-setting system.

  • May perform other facility repairs, maintenance, inspections, and installations that require assistance from internal and external resources; including outside vendors.

  • May be required to operate equipment necessary to complete maintenance tasks such as; man lifts, forklift, cut saws, and other tools and equipment typical to construction and maintenance tasks.

  • Must maintain and clean materials, tools, equipment, or vehicles.

Education, Experience, Licensing

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and two years in facilities maintenance, construction maintenance, trades work, or closely related experience.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

  • Prefer Journeyman or similar license in any of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, carpentry or HVAC.

Supplemental Information

  • Ability to work from blueprints, wiring diagrams, and sketches.

  • Ability to demonstrate skill in operating small machinery and hand tools used in the specific job.

  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and be able to stoop, crawl, climb ladders, scaffolding, and work from motorized lifts.

  • Ability to work in extreme environments; including weather typical to Florida and around solid waste and potentially offensive odors.

  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues.

  • Ability to correctly use all types of electrical meters.

  • Ability to work with single and three phase motors.

  • Ability to work during declared emergencies and during inclement weather.

  • Ability to work effectively with department work groups, contractors, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to communicate effectively; in both oral and written form and comprehend verbal instructions.

  • The work days and hours for this position are Monday through Friday 6:30 am to 3:00 pm including lunch break. May be required to be on-call when scheduled, work overtime and work flexible hours and days, as needed, including holidays and weekends.
