Summary About the Position: Serves as Administrative Officer to the Chief of Staff, US Army South which includes the Chief of Staff (CoS), Deputy Chief of Staff (DCoS), Secretary General Staff (SGS), and Deputy SGS. US Army (ARSOUTH) is the Army Service Component Command (ASCC) with direct reporting to the Chief of Staff of the Army (CSA) and US Southern Command, Combatant Commander, (USSOUTHCOM). Responsibilities Maintains liaison with Command and Directorate Administrative and Executive Officers, Administrative Assistants, Action Officers and support staff members of ARSOUTH, US SOUTHCOM, and staff of other organizations. Develops strategies for internal and external integration of day-to-day and long-range projects and activities requiring involvement of the CoS’s Office. Ensures the requirements of the CoS are conveyed and considered in actions, briefings, and correspondence undertaken by the staff. Provides technical advisory services to administrative staff in positions ranging from GS-08 Admin Support Staff through GS-12 Administrative Officers, Senior Staff, and Directors. Serves as primary POC for all classified message handling of secret documentation for the Command Group. Conducts research of historical files and performs review of previous or ongoing actions on the same or related subjects to obtain background information relative to each action. Assist in managing, monitoring, and evaluating significant projects and activities which are command directed. Responsible for the timeliness and manages the CoS’s Officer Evaluation Reports (OER) profile, and careful sequencing of reports to DA. Anticipates and stays acutely abreast of upcoming boards and schools causing the possible generation of reports which would affect the balance of the profile. Prepares, coordinates, and maintains CoS’s, and DCoS’s, daily, short and long range calendar.; exercises complete control over appointments with complete authority for commitments of time. Manages all digital correspondence for signature of the Commanding General, Deputy to the Commanding General, Chief of Staff, and DCoS, including civilian appraisals, SOPs, Memoranda of Agreements, military and civilian awards, and certificates. Edits and rewrites General Officer, Flag Officer, Senior Executive Services correspondence, decision papers, fact sheets, information papers, etc., in support of actions and projects. Renders decisions regarding the quality of action documents (content clarity, proper tone, accuracy, grammar, formatting errors, coordination, and other administrative requirements) with authority to reject work failing to meet quality standards. Maintains a current knowledge of Department of the Army (DA) and ARSOUTH procedures for the preparation of correspondence and informs and assists other personnel concerning such procedures. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with Command's programs and activities, which includes the philosophies, policies, and procedures governing administrative and technical aspects of the mission, operations and support activities. Experience orchestrating, integrating, and synchronizing staff actions, events, and activities with components, mission responsibilities and interrelationships with Headquarters, Department of Army, Department of Defense, other Government agencies, Local Government Offices, and civilian organizations to analyze and coordinate complex actions, events and projects. Experience in military/civilian and Senior Executive Service personnel management, and Joint and Department of State (DoS) regulations; communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, to explain administrative requirements and to disseminate local procedures and instructions. OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business Administration, Business Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
