About you and this role:

Dowhas an exciting opportunity for anImprovement Managerto support new world scale Solution Polyethylene Production facilities that will be constructed and started up as part of the Path2Zero located inFort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada. The Path2Zero program will create the first net-zero emissions site of its kind in the world. The FS P2Z program is a key enabler to Dow’s Decarbonization strategy. This individual will engage in commissioning and start-up of Solution Polyethylene Train 4 and act as Commissioning and Startup engineer using their experience and knowledge to help train operations and develop effective commissioning and startup and operations disciplines. When the plant is started up, they would transition to be a core member of the operations team helping to identify and capture gains within the existing asset base and finding opportunities for reducing structural costs while enhancing sustainability performance over time. This individual will work to identify, scope and shepherd projects to implement cost effective solutions to performance opportunities / challenges.

During commissioning this role will align to the Solution Polyethylene Train 4/5 production leader and will be re-evaluated in post-startup for better business and functional alignment.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Commissioning and Startup team to develop plant’s commissioning and start-up (CSU) and operating disciple (OD) during the construction and commissioning phase of the project.

  • Leverage process understanding and expertise to help train and develop operations staff.

  • Participate in commissioning and start-up of facility, executing procedures for commissioning and start up and providing troubleshooting and support as challenges arise.

  • Develop and demonstrate strong knowledge of Dow’s Life Critical Standards (LCSs) and employ common sense in their implementation.

  • Maintain strong field presence to reinforce EH&S principles and provide operational support.

  • Possess knowledge of process technology and continuous improvement skills, helping to establish credibility with operations team.

  • Drive technology exchange with technology experts to increase awareness of potential improvement opportunities.

  • Partner with plant and experts to develop and maintain a Plant Specific Technology Plan that delivers positive Return on Capital (ROC) and non-capital continuous improvement while helping plant meet EH&S improvement goals.

  • Champion process safety activities and act as a resource for process safety concerns.

  • Partner with plant operation and maintenance personnel to identify and track performance indicators to be used in identifying technology gaps and continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Support facility root cause investigation process by serving as a team member or facilitator for incidents related to process technology.

  • Where necessary support projects in GPM related roles of project manager or manufacturing representative.

  • Work with plant to maintain and implement MET and tech center initiatives.

  • Ensures Most Effective Technology (MET) is understood and that appropriate tools and automation are used to optimize plant performance.

  • Utilizes defined MET and challenges / escalates MET application and assumptions when better solutions arise.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Engineering is required.

  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience is required.

  • Registration or the ability to be registered with APEGA (EIT/P. Eng).

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours to accommodate commissioning activities / meetings with team members in different locations / time zones.

  • A minimum requirement for this Canada based position is the ability to work legally in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in Dow Solution Polyethylene manufacturing.

  • Strong demonstrated technical, interpersonal, and teamwork skills

  • Experience on ABB Control Systems.

  • Familiarization with LOPA and Safety Instrumented Systems.

  • Experience on commissioning and startup or turnaround is advantage.
