About Us:

NBCUniversal Global Distribution is responsible for the sales and distribution of NBCUniversal products to all forms of television and new media platforms in over 200 territories across the globe, its revenue portfolio exceeding $7Bn per year.  This includes a rich library of more than 4,400 feature films and 120,000 television episodes, including current and classic titles, non-scripted programming, sports, news, long-form and short-form programming, and locally produced content from around the world.

The Managing Director Germany and Austria will bring inspirational leadership and vision to our business, ensuring the optimal performance of Universal’s slate at the box office. This key leadership role will report directly to the EVP EMEA communicating and collaborating effectively to develop and carry through clear and coherent strategies for the business. This is a fantastic opportunity for an influential leader to identify new growth opportunities and continue to build a positive team environment, whilst ensuring the effective delivery of territory goals and objectives. We are looking for an exceptional, commercially astute business leader to drive our German and Austrian team and business forward.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Commercial Focus

  • Ensures that the territories meets its overall budget and achieves its movie by movie P&L budgets.

  • Develops and implements release strategies for all movies for the territories.

  • Takes a lead role in business development activities. Continues to build upon the current relationships with the local exhibitors and key partners and is ultimately responsible for all day-to-day deals negotiated between the two parties.

  • Shows good judgement by making relevant decisions to maximise movie release profitability and ensure issue resolution.

  • Analyses, explains and reports Box Office results to the Regional Office. Supervises dating procedures and market analysis.

  • Manages overhead and operating plan goals for the German and Austrian OpCo.

  • Maximize Enterprise Value Through Cross-Company Collaboration

  • Foster a strong DEI focus in your responsibilities.

People Leadership & Communication

  • Establish a clear vision for the business; communicate, expedite and deliver on local priorities, goals & objectives.

  • Foster the Development of the SMT. Balancing the need to give clear direction whilst also empowering and creating space for learning.

  • Oversee sales, marketing, finance and operational functions ensuring an integrated/cohesive team operation.

  • Lead the 5 OpCo senior management team to ensure that they are fully empowered to fulfil and execute their roles, and able to support and inspire their teams.

  • Work closely with UPI functional leaders (marketing, finance, legal, HR) to maximise OpCo performance.

  • Lead all relevant operating processes for the OpCo (e.g. budget planning, salary planning, systems oversight etc).

  • Responsible for a headcount of 43 (36 Germany and 7 Austria), including 6 (DE&AT) direct reports.

  • Identify and attract talent across all levels; retain and develop key employees through mentoring, motivation, feedback and learning opportunities. Ensure this practice filters through the whole OpCo through leading by example.

  • An ambassador for the NBCUniversal Values.

Qualifications and desired characteristics

  • Strong track record of success leading cross functional teams, deploying skill sets and resources to address any given business challenge.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; Ability to articulate all deal points in a clear and concise manner (to client and agency decision makers, as well as internal constituents).

  • Demonstrated leadership skills including an ability to work across divisions and departments.

  • Experience building and leading high performing teams, and prioritizing the DEI-forward leadership values of NBCU.

  • Strong commercial acumen, proven track record of driving revenue growth in the entertainment sector.

  • Deep understanding of the entertainment or content landscape of Germany and ideally of Austria as well.

  • A dynamic individual with a positive and practical 'can do' style who is comfortable driving the agenda.

  • Progressive, collaborative – tapping into the existing culture and moving it on

  • Able to take a longer-term view of the business and become a figure head for the industry.

  • Marketing minded (giving equal weight and attention to all depts).

Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
