Oglethorpe Power Maintenance Coordinator in Franklin, Georgia

Responsible for maintenance (preventive, predictive, corrective, and special projects) planning, preparation, schedule development, and maintenance coordination for 1 Combined Cycle Plant consisting of 2 Combustion Turbine/Generators, 2 Heat Recovery Steam Generators, and Steam Turbine/Generator, along with all associated auxiliary equipment, including monitoring and coordinating milestones and action items; budget and scope development and control; self-assessment and performance monitoring; improvement initiatives, and risk assessment. Responsible for administering the Conduct of Maintenance Program and ensuring compliance within the program for the facility, facilitating post-work critiques, and identifying actions necessary to improve future maintenance. Responsible for providing reliable and efficient electric power generation in compliance with corporate safety policies and procedures, mandatory electric reliability standards, FERC, EPA, EPD, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable governmental regulations.

Job Duties:

  • Visit work sites and identify any safety hazards or other potential problems that need to be documented. If necessary, contacts the requestor to ensure that the work is accurately understood before planning. During the performance of these duties, the incumbent may be required to carry up to 75 pounds of tools, equipment, and/or materials. The incumbent may also be required to work inside confined spaces and other normally inaccessible spaces in the performance of these duties. To access the work locations, the incumbent must be capable of climbing up and down several hundred steps; climbing scaffolding; working at heights, within confined spaces, near or over water, and near high voltage equipment; and must be able to wear and use required personnel protective equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus, full face cartridge respirators, and airline supplied respirators.

  • Estimate what craft groups it will take to do the job and also how long it should take to do the job.

  • Determine the material needed, reserve the stock items, and order non-stock materials. Also, ensure that they are available in sufficient quantities for the work to be performed.

  • Ensure all required resources, labor, materials, tools; rental equipment, contractors, etc. are ready before the work is scheduled.

  • Develop and track craft/crew backlogs (a total of all labor requirements for work that is ready to schedule).

  • Track the labor capacity for each week, to take enough work out of the backlog to make up the weekly schedule. This total takes into account vacations, sickness, overtime, etc. to ensure an accurate schedule can be produced.

  • Prepare a weekly schedule to be given to the Plant O&M Supervisors at the end of the week, so they can prepare for the next week. This position also prepares a long-range projected schedule for a period of four weeks.

  • Track work orders to completion in the computerized maintenance management system (Maximo). This position receives completed work orders, notes any problems, and ensures that the following minimal information is available in Maximo: date of repair, work order number, accumulated downtime, cause code, the priority of work, actual labor, actual materials, total cost, and year-to-date and life-to-date costs. Evaluate KPIs and other performance indicators within Maximo to ensure efficiency within the maintenance process.

  • Interface with management, outage coordinator, craft, operations, and specialized positions to resolve planning and scheduling issues. Includes providing performance reports for management review and administration of action items that are developed from those reports. Development of outage personnel schedule and tracking of any changes requested by management.

    Required Qualifications:

    Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or engineering technology is preferred.

    Experience: Eight (8) years minimum outage maintenance and management experience in an operating commercial electric power generating plant is desired. Must have experience with using a CMMS, with preference given to Maximo.

    Equivalent Experience: Candidates with a two (2) year technical degree plus ten (10) years of directly related maintenance and management experience in an electrical power plant environment or twelve (12) years of directly related maintenance and management experience may be considered.

    Equivalent experience will be determined based on a combination of education, training, and professional, technical, or military experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Education considered may include technical and college studies and degrees, industrial training programs and certifications, and military training. Experience considered may include related industrial and military work. Supervisory, management, and leadership responsibilities may be considered in any work or military setting.

    Unusual Hours : The generating plants operate on a 24-hour basis. At his or her discretion, the incumbent may elect to remain on-site around the clock during forced outages, maintenance outages, or to attend plant meetings that occur outside normal office hours. The incumbent is on 24-hour call in the event of incidents that affect the operation, rating, or reliability of the Corporation's generating assets.
