We are looking for a Environmental Manager to join our NAF team in Freeport, TX.

We are seeking exceptional candidates for an EHS (Environmental) Manager to supervise environmental professionals and to be responsible for overall management and coordination of EHS (environmental) compliance at the Hub/Site level. This position ensures adherence to EHS (environmental) laws, regulations and BASF Corporation requirements through the use of the shared services concept. This leadership position is located in Freeport, Texas. The Freeport site is a multi-business integrated chemical production site with approximately 1,500 employees and contractors. In addition to the Freeport site, this position also is responsible for supervision of environmental professionals with responsibility for eight other BASF sites in Texas. This position also interacts with EHS experts and professionals who support all of BASF’s North American sites and businesses.

As a Environmental Manager, you create chemistry by...

  • Providing leadership and direct support to coordinating and implementing assigned environmental programs, projects, and other compliance activities at Freeport and other assigned sites.

  • Supporting BASF Responsible Care© Management Systems, including effective implementation of BASF standardized EHS processes, and participation in management system reviews.

  • Participating in the BASF North America extended environmental expert team and representing BASF at Baker Botts Texas Industry Project quarterly meetings.

  • Facilitating the sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and best practices within the Texas EHS Hub and across BASF’s North American Region.

  • Collaborating with the BASF EHS Centers of Expertise on development of processes and initiatives to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Implementing systems to identify and monitor key performance indicators within area of responsibility and adjusting resources and programs as needed to respond to internal audits, external regulatory inspections, and environmental performance gaps.

  • Serving as Champion for the Freeport Environmental Compliance Engineer Team.

  • Supervising assigned environmental staff to meet environmental performance goals within area of responsibility; facilitating staff professional development; participating in staff performance calibrations.

  • Assisting EHS&S Director in development of effective working relationships with site management and employees, EHS community, manufacturing, engineering, legal, and EHS regulatory agencies.

  • Interfacing with regulatory agencies, third parties, and other stakeholders on compliance and enforcement issues, taking the lead on enforcement issues. Fostering an atmosphere with TCEQ regulators where BASF is seen as a responsible member of the regulated community.

  • Directing the Environmental On-Call program at the Freeport site and serving as secondary on-call person 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.

If you...

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a science-related field is preferred, with 10+ years of environmental regulatory and technical experience in the chemical or related industries (e.g., petrochemical or refinery) OR in lieu of a degree, must have 15+ years of environmental regulatory and technical experience in the chemical or related industries (e.g., petrochemical or refinery).

  • Have demonstrated experience with Title V permitting and other EPA program areas.

  • Possess strong familiarity with TPDES, RCRA, PSD, NSPS, MACT, LDAR, RMP, SARA, and CERCLA/EPCRA regulations.

  • Have Texas-specific environmental regulatory experience (preferred).

  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively interact with and influence corporate and site leadership, elected officials, regulatory agencies, NGOs, and community stakeholders.

  • Be extremely detail-oriented with excellent writing, organizational, communication, and editing/proofreading skills.

  • Exhibit strong capabilities in team leadership, coaching, strategic thinking, entrepreneurship, customer focus, innovation, and collaboration.
