This position serves as the District Manager to the Ft. Myers office and is responsible for the daily operations of the district office.

The Work You Will Do

Responsible for the district successfully completing assignments as scheduled. Manages district inspection operations in accordance with applicable statutes, rules, policies and procedures, including completion of mandated activity based on available resources. Promotes compliance with applicable statutes and rules by issuing actions according to the operation and support guidelines.

Responsible for selecting and retaining the best possible candidate for each position in the district. Ensures a high staff retention by maintaining a consistently desirable work environment and applies team building strategies to maximize staff productivity. Leads and develops people to perform at high levels of professional potential.

Directly supervises the Deputy District Manager and the field Supervisors. Fosters open and honest communication up and down the supervisory chain and with peers. Analyzes and reacts to issues and complaints in a manner that achieves optimal compliance or resolution.

Performs independent work with a consistently high degree of personal organization, productivity, and professionalism while maintaining a positive demeanor. Consistently creates positive outcomes with employees and with all stakeholders, including the industry, licensees and the public.

Represents the ideas, interests and concerns of your district work unit by keeping headquarters well informed. Disseminates initiatives, policies and directives from headquarters to all district team members. Creates solutions to problems that arise in the district. Brings ideas, problems and solutions to other district managers for statewide consistency and resolution. Ensures that customers, both internal and external are treated politely, fairly and equitably and in a timely manner.

Ensures equipment, property and vehicles are maintained and effectively utilized. Ensures district expenditures are within department guidelines and/or policies. Responsible and accountable for accurate revenue and receipt book procedures for temporary events.

Prepares and fulfills public records requests. Custodian of records for the district. Provides written and oral correspondence to internal and external customers.

Acts as the Division representative to other state, county and municipal agencies within your geographic area. Fills the role of incident commander during emergencies and catastrophes.

Monitors district quality assurance and makes improvement recommendations to ensure consistency among inspectors and teams.

Incumbent is responsible for integrating the use of computer software and desktop or portable hardware to enhance personal and organizational performance, including spreadsheet, word processing, scheduling, e-mail, licensing and internet applications, and other technology required by the department.

Performs other work as required.

Knowledge Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of laws, rules, policies and procedures applicable to Division of Hotels & Restaurants

  • Knowledge of the U.S. FDA Food Code (Chapter 509 FS, Chapter 61C FAC, FDA Food Code)

  • Ability to use state issued equipment and technology to maintain comprehensive records and prepare reports of program requirements.

    Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor degree; or

  • Four (4) or more years ofindustry-relatedmanagement/supervisory experience,and

  • Four years or more of experience managing or overseeing statutory training requirement,and

  • Four years or more of experience with the application of Chapter 509, F.S., Chapter 61-C., FAC, and the FDA Food Code.

    **Industry-related experience is considered to be hotel or restaurant management, restaurant or lodging operations, field or laboratory experience in environmental or public health, food sanitation or quality control.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preference will be given to applicants with food service and/or lodging inspection experience.
