Job Description:

Strategic Planning and Policy Implementation (20%):

• Participate in the strategic planning for assigned areas and assist the Program Director in developing and implementing the overall departmental strategic plan.

• Formulate and implement policies and procedures to enhance the effectiveness of educational programs.

• Establish performance goals and measures to evaluate the success of assigned areas of responsibility.

Supervisory Responsibilities (30%):

• Supervise the day-to-day operations of assigned areas, including the supervision of departmental employees.

• Provide guidance and direction to staff involved in department services and programs.

• Manage job functions and coordinate personnel support staff.

• Ensure that all programs, activities, and services comply with university, state, and federal regulations.

Clinical Instruction (30%):

• Provide clinical instruction to junior and senior dental students in the Teams clinics for courses DEN7834L, 7835L, 7836L, 8837L, 8838L, and 8839L.

• Supervise an average of six dental students per clinical session performing periodontal procedures in the DMD clinics.

• Monitor and approve periodontal treatment planning during periodic and comprehensive exams as needed.

• Instruct students on periodontal instrumentation, including hand and powered instruments, infection control, and patient management.

• Supervise periodontal competencies, including SRP complex and SPT competencies, and Calculus Detection and Removal Skills Assessment.

Program Development and Implementation (10%):

• Assist the Pre-doctoral Program Director with the development and implementation of periodontal education.

• Design and deliver all aspects of DMD teaching, including preclinical, clinical, mock board examination, administration, and coordination of labs and activities.

• Manage Perio Canvas courses, including gradebook updates, syllabi, documents, assignments, and general course settings for courses DEN7834L, 7835L, 7836L, 8837L, 8838L, 8839L, and DEN6421.

• Serve as Acting Program Director when the Program Director is unavailable.

• Assist the course director with the summer course DEN8423 for seniors, ensuring the Canvas course is updated as needed, including syllabus, assignments, lectures, and gradebook settings.

• Assist the course director with the surgical course DEN7422 every fall semester, coordinating lab activities for the Pig Jaw Lab, including managing supplies, organization, set-up, and clean-up of the Sim Lab.

Grade Coordination and Monitoring Student Progress (5%):

• Manage grades for Pre-doctoral DMD students and Post-doctoral Perio residents.

• Periodically monitor periodontal requirements for an average of 180+ students (juniors and seniors) to ensure timely graduation.

o Generate and share reports with Team Leaders, Academic Affairs, and Clinical Administration on a regular basis.

o Meet with students as needed to address questions regarding periodontal competencies and other graduation requirements.

Additional Responsibilities (5%):

• Organize and participate in the Perio Mock Board as an examiner, helping prepare students for the State Board examination.

• Prepare second-year dental students (incoming junior students) for clinical care in spring semester courses DEN6302C (Treatment Planning) and DEN6508C (Essentials of Clinical Care).

• Provide instruction to Perio residents in course DEN6656 on Mechanical Plaque Control and Periodontal Instrumentation.

• Facilitate faculty and resident clinical calibration using calibrated dental models to gather data on calculus detection and periodontal probing.

• Participate in meetings related to course preparation with the Office of Academic Affairs and course directors.

• Assist in CODA accreditation as needed.

• Provide additional services for the Periodontology Department as needed.

Expected Salary:

$97,366.86

Minimum Requirements:

Masters degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelors degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.
