Summary
The Director of Financial Reporting will report directly to the Corporate Controller and is responsible for the accurate and timely accounting and financial reporting for the Freeman Companies, including ensuring that Freeman accounting policies are in compliance with US GAAP and are consistently applied among the Freeman companies. The Director will help implement changes in accounting standards, be responsible for the consolidation of Freeman’s subsidiary companies and will manage the financial reporting team.
This position will support our Finance team. It is eligible to work a hybrid schedule, generally requiring work in-office and/or show-site 2-3 days per week. This position is based out of our North Dallas office in Dallas, TX.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Accounting:
Interpreting accounting standards: Understanding the nuances and detailed guidance provided by GAAP on specific transactions or financial statement presentations.
Complex transaction analysis: Analyzing and determining the appropriate accounting treatment for complex business transactions. This could include mergers and acquisitions, financial instruments, revenue recognition for complicated contracts, etc.
Research and documentation: When faced with unique or complicated transactions, ability to research the relevant accounting standards or seek guidance from professional bodies or advisory firms, document findings and the rationale behind the accounting treatment chosen, and implement the accounting treatment as required.
Liaising with auditors: Interact with internal and external auditors, explaining and justifying the company’s application of accounting standards.
Staying updated: Consistently updated on accounting standards.
Financial Reporting:
Manage the monthly preparation of financial statements, including consolidation, intercompany balancing, etc.
Manage the quarterly preparation of debt covenant compliance certificates.
Manage the monthly and quarterly submission of financials for external reporting.
Manage and review balance sheet reconciliations at both a consolidated level and from subsidiaries.
Manage and support external and internal audits, related requests and submissions.
Manage the implementation of new accounting standards to the Company, as applicable.
Manage and maintain the complete library of accounting policies for the company.
Manage fixed asset reporting and reconciliation.
Propose journal entries and reporting changes for acquisitions, restructuring and divestitures.
Be actively involved in the annual audit process, including: managing PBC requests, preparation of the annual report, providing documentation to auditors and working to resolve questions and issues.
Lead the accounting department section of change management projects for accounting, GL, and company code structures.
Direct staffing, training, development, goal setting, and performance evaluations of their direct reports.
Perform ad hoc reporting and other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
Master’s degree in accounting from an accredited institution preferred, Bachelor's degree from a 4 year accredited college or university is required.
“Big 4” experience preferred.
Minimum 5 years of financial reporting experience in a lead role, preferably with a public company.
Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP; technical accounting experience is a must.
Self-motivated, hands-on, detail-oriented individual who exhibits a high level of self-initiative, ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize competing priorities to accomplish assigned. tasks within established deadlines. Ability to adapt to rapid change and think creatively.
