POSITION SUMMARY:
The Corporate Optimization and Control Engineer provides technical support related to advanced multi-variable process control applications for optimization of plant operations. This position reports to the Process Control Technologist and is based out of Findlay or a Marathon refinery but will provide support to multiple refineries for Marathon. The Corporate Control and Optimization Engineer’s primary role is to develop new applications with APC and emerging technologies such as deep learning AI for Marathon, provide mentorship and guidance to engineers at refineries, develop strategic direction with control and optimization technologies, as well as develop standards and guidelines. The ideal candidate will have extensive Advanced Process Control (APC) experience and be eager to learn and apply emerging technologies in the process control space.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead Optimization Engineer supporting a multi-year project to expand deep learning AI technology at a large complex refinery.
Maintain performance of installed APC applications. Improve stability robustness, economic performance, and Health/Environmental/Safety performance of APC applications.
Enhance refinery economics by maintaining knowledge of production targets, economic drivers, and constraints limiting profitability. Maintain knowledge of future plans for changing operating conditions and equipment modifications.
Work collaboratively with refinery resources to identify and develop new APC and Optimization applications to maximize profitability. Execute projects to develop or modify APC and Optimization applications. Produce and/or update documentation.
Support the development of APC and Optimization knowledge and skills within MPC.
Help develop strategy direction for APC and emerging technologies at Marathon.
Help develop standards and guidelines for APC and emerging technologies at Marathon.
Support expansion of optimization and deep learning projects at all Marathon refineries.
Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering required. Additional graduate study in advanced process control is preferred. Other degrees with relevant experience will be considered.
Minimum of 5 years experience in the refining or petrochemical industry is required.
Experience with deep learning AI technologies including implementation and maintenance of refining applications is preferred.
Five or more years of experience in process control preferred.
Proficiency in Experion PKS or Honeywell TPS preferred
Established proficiency in relevant APC tools (Aspentech DMCPlus or DMC3 preferred)
A Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) is required.
