Burning Man NVO BRC Storage Assistant Manager in Gerlach, Nevada

JOB SUMMARY

The BRC Storage Assistant Manager will work with the BRC Storage Manager to support and manage the BRC Storage Crew.  They will facilitate and support the BRC Storage Manager in managing projects and logistics for Black Rock City (BRC) operations of the BRC Storage Program.  They will assist the BRC Storage Manager in performing daily assigned tasks and logistics associated with the scheduling and operations of the BRC Storage Crew, as well as work closely with program participants to ensure a proper customer service experience.  The assistant manager will serve a role as the main escalation point for customer service issues.

 

This is a temporary, full-time , non-exempt role, based in Black Rock City, Nevada running from June to September , 2025.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

On Playa Team Management and Logistics (50%)

 

  • Train, acculturate and support BRC Storage Program staff and volunteer team in flagging procedures, communication methods for interactions with program participants, and proper pathways for escalating concerns.

  • Directly manage the relationship on playa between BRC Placement Flagging team.  

  • Manage the on playa operations of the container transpo process in concert with the BRC Storage Manager, who will run the overall operations, and the Admin Agent who will run the ops on The 360.

  • The BRC Storage Assistant Manager will work closely with the BRC Storage Supervisor to plan and execute a logistics plan for the 2024 event season, ensuring that mutant vehicles and other storage customers are properly supported.

  • Foster good working relationships with BRC Storage owners and camp managers. Help resolve any issues or concerns they may have.

  • Assist the BRC Storage Manager in the planning and implementation of camp visits on playa.

  • Support a fulfilling, respectful, safe, and productive environment for the BRC Storage Crew. 

  • Complete all BRC Storage Manager duties in their absence.  

     

    Administration, Customer Service, and Yard Management (40%)    

                                                                                                 

  • Learn and effectively use existing online systems, documents, and reports to ensure forms are complete and submitted on time.

  • Assist the BRC Storage manager in the maintenance and use of logs and SalesForce to track and execute on:

  • BRC Storage owner and camp manager contact information

  • Requests for container repairs or consulting on maintenance

  • Mutant Vehicle (and other) storage and pick-up requests

  • Customer service needs

  • Assist with the contracting process for containers and mutant vehicles that join the program on playa.

  • Regularly walk The 360’s mutant vehicle yard to note any particular vehicle that is Mooping, leaking, or otherwise causing damage to the surrounding environment.

  • Maintain and contribute to policies supporting the operations of mutant vehicle storage and participant access to mutant vehicle support facilities, including tools or assets.  

  • When problems arise in the yard, create a plan to solve the problem and execute it.

  • Maintain documentation of any damage from specific mutant vehicles during moves and establish preventative solutions.

  • Work closely with BRC Storage Program participants to solve problems, schedule site visits, and ensure that we are constantly developing the program to meet the ever changing needs of our community.

  • Work with purchasing to track placed orders for BRC Storage, ensuring prompt completion and delivery.

     

    GENERAL (10%)

  • Ensure communications are prompt and professional and that needed discretion is maintained.

  • Be familiar with and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

     

    REQUIRED

  • 3+ years working in Black Rock City and a well developed knowledge of its departments and operations.

  • 3+ years in customer service; ability to tailor communication to receiving parties with appropriate professionalism.

  • 2+ years of leadership experience, preferably in Black Rock City or associated event production spaces.

  • 1+ years using Salesforce

  • Advanced knowledge of Google products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Word, and Excel. Comfortable working in spreadsheets and proactively asking questions should clarification be needed on how to use an online tool.

  • Ability to read and interpret BRC theme camp layouts.

  • Experience working with integrated plans and timelines.

  • Open to change and considerable variety in daily tasks.

  • Able to accept feedback and maintain a professional demeanor.

  • Sensitive to others' needs and feelings, understanding, and helpful.

  • Effectively manages own time, the time of individual team members, and the team's efforts as a whole.

  • Capable of working in an extreme environment, including drastic temperature changes, high winds, and low to no visibility.

  • Able to move to Gerlach, NV, and BRC for the contract duration.

  • Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Leadership Toolbox, NVO Handbook, Ranch Protocols, and the 360 S.O.P.

     

    PREFERRED

  • Experience working with DocuSign.

  • First-Aid knowledge.

  • Previous experience with transportation logistics.

  • It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.

    REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

     

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

     

    COMPENSATION: 

    Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $18 to $22.00 per hour .

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Off Playa: Work is primarily sedentary in nature, no special demands are required. 

  • On Playa:   This position requires periods of light lifting, bending, kneeling, and squatting. This position will be physically demanding and requires individuals with good physical health and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
