Burning Man NVO BRC Storage Crew in Gerlach, Nevada

JOB SUMMARY

The Black Rock City (BRC) Storage Crew member will assist with container location, flagging, and placement activities on playa.  Crew members will also participate in visiting container participant camps to evaluate the use and resolve customer service issues. 

 

This is a temporary, full-time , non-exempt role, based in Black Rock City, Nevada running from August to September , 2025.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Flagging, Placement, and Transpo (60%)

  • As directed by the BRC Storage Manager, Assistant Manager, and with the support of BRC Storage Leads, use camp layouts provided by container owners to flag container locations.

  • Place and record the placement of security banding on each container; track band numbers.

  • Foster good working relationships with BRC Storage container owners, camp managers, and internal departments.

  • Provide services with care and professionalism; offer thoughtful acknowledgment and accommodation to requests.

     

    Customer Service and Camp Visits (20%)         

                                                                                         

  • Working in teams, visiting each BRC Storage Program camp, ensuring the container is in good condition and chatting with the program participants about their experience.

  • Work with the BRC Storage Assistant Manager to track needed repairs.

     

    Administration and Documentation (10%)  

                                                                            

  • Track work with the BRC Storage Administrative Agent; provide documentation as required by the BRC Storage Manager.

  • Document and report any issues or concerns of BRC Storage owners; escalate, as needed, to the Storage Administrative Agent and BRC Storage Manager promptly.

     

    Other Functions and Responsibilities (10%)

  • Be familiar and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

     

    LEARNING AND TEACHING

  • Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

     

    REQUIRED

  • 1+ years of customer service experience.

  • Ability to read and decipher maps; capable of finding and communicating personal location in a pre-build Black Rock City.

  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects (minimum 30 pounds) safely.

  • Honest and ethical with a dedication to the Burning Man principles and behavioral standards

  • Reliable; fulfill obligations and can follow directions through to task completion.

  • A team player who is also able to work independently.

  • Capable of working in an extreme environment, including drastic temperature changes, high winds, and low to no visibility at times.

  • Able to adjust schedule seasonally to work at the Burning Man event held in Nevada.

  • Knowledge of BRC, its departments, and operations.

  • Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Compass, Ranch Protocols, and the 360 and Storage S.O.P.’s.

     

    PREFERRED

  • Surveying experience.

  • Experienced and comfortable with using two way radios.

    REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

     

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

     

    COMPENSATION: 

    Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $15.00  to $16.50 per hour .

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Off-playa:   n/a

  • On-playa:   This position requires periods of light lifting (minimum 30 pounds), bending, kneeling and squatting. This position will be physically demanding and requires individuals with good physical health and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore, this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and exposed to fumes or airborne particles, as well as possible extremes in temperature.
