Amergis Orthopedics Surgical First Assistant - $30/hour in Germantown, Tennessee
Under the direct and immediate supervision of a surgeon, the Surgical First Assistant provides aid in exposure, hemostasis and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The surgical first assistant plays a vital role in patient care and assisting surgeons preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Positions the patient with the surgeon’s instruction, which will give the best exposure for the surgical procedure
Uses standard and specialized equipment to aid in patient positioning
Provides the surgeon with appropriate visualization of the operative site using retractors, sponges, dial manipulation, and other techniques according to standards
Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist the surgeon with temporary or permanent hemostasis
Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes
Selects appropriate actions or instrumentation in collaboration with the surgeon
Selects and applies appropriate wound dressings
Assist with patient transport to and from OR
Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Graduation from accredited surgical assistant program with subsequent current certification/credential
Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
