Overview

Assist the Air Emission Test Lead (AETL) with Air Emissions Compliance and Engineering Testing and Relative Accuracy Test Audits (RATA) on Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) at LG&E and KU Energy Generating Stations. Study regulations and learn the procedures for probe insertion and traverse, sampling systems, moisture measurement, sample recovery, equipment maintenance, and proper storage and inventory. The position also includes Data QA review of CEMS data and report preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety regulations are observed and all emission testing personnel (including contractors) are aware of hazards.

  • Report all unsafe conditions to plant manager or his designate. Study regulations and procedures required for USEPA emission testing, CEMS audits, and AETBs.

  • Keep all test equipment certified, calibrated and up to date. Perform all required maintenance and annual calibration procedures on emission test equipment.

  • Conduct all air emissions testing in accordance with USEPA Reference Methods, LG&E and KU AETB Quality Manual, associated Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures, and other regulatory agency approved procedures. Safely mobilize equipment to each test site.

  • Assist in emission data analysis and regulatory report preparation. All other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Associates degree in Science, Engineering, or Environmental Science with no experience, or a high school education and a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Required to certify under DOT Medical Card requirements. Must be able to work in elevated locations and/or confined spaces.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Background in power generation or air pollution chemistry preferred. Knowledge of USEPA air emission test methods and procedures, and CEMS monitors and equipment.

WORK CONDITIONS

Power plant exposure to dirt, dust, heat, cold, noise, etc. is expected, proper PPE is provided and required. Some work is performed at elevations of 500 feet or more above ground level.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS

Frequent standing, walking, or operating in work-controlled position. Ability to climb or descend up to 500 feet. Most facilities are equipped with elevators. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.

Remote Work
