Corewell Health Research Technician Genomics Bioinformatics in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Summary

The Research Technician role will be responsible for organizing and processing samples with genomic technologies, as well as performing bioinformatic analysis on generated data. This role would support researchers at Corewell Health within the Grand Rapids Research Center (GRRC) in the heart of downtown. Work will focus on genetics in human and animal models in the research areas of cardiovascular, pediatrics, women's health, immunology, and infectious diseases. A background in biology and/or computer science is preferred but not required.

Essential Functions

  • Sets up equipment and conducts experiments following established protocols and research methodology; gathers data for analysis and interpretation of test results.

  • Conducts basic levels of critical analyses and evaluation of laboratory data generated on patients or from laboratory tests and helps formulate a hypothesis from the relationships found. Plans and performs various types of experimentation which may use animals and experimental models.

  • Assays samples and may prepare reagents. Operates sophisticated laboratory equipment to conduct research.

  • Processes and records samples, orders materials for assays, determines schedule for assays planned. Makes written progress reports and prepares summaries of data for interpretation by others in lab.

  • Keeps abreast of new techniques and reviews literature in the field pertinent to the area of research. May assist in idea generation for writing papers for publication and scientific presentations based on research performed. May assist in the preparation of annual reports and in developing concepts for research proposals. Proposes new ideas, discusses and/or advises the feasibility of proposed research.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science from an accredited college or university

Preferred

  • Laboratory research experience, preferably in the scientific field pertinent to the area of research conducted
