North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State Unive Budget Officer in Greensboro, North Carolina

Description:

The Honors College Budget Officer will implement budgeting and financial record keeping procedures to ensure efficient coordination of the Honors College budget, grants, and designated accounts, maintain accurate information regarding the financial status of the College, advise the Dean regarding financial decisions, assist the Dean and other Honors staff with allotment and expense projections, and prepare a variety of operational and financial reports and spreadsheets.

The Budget Officer will also coordinate the development of training programs and present and/or facilitate the presentation of specific topical training sessions related to financial and budgetary topics in support of the College. The Budget Officer will report to the Dean of the Honors College.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The North Carolina A&T State University Honors College is the unit on campus responsible for creating a series of programming, curricular and co-curricular initiatives that assists high-achieving students excel in their college careers.

Requirements:

The requirements of the Honors College Business Officer include:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Management or a related field, no experience is required. With a bachelor’s degree in fields other than those described above, 3-5 years of experience in an accounting, budgetary, or management position is required.

  • Demonstrated experience in the coordination of various budgets, grants, and designated accounts by implementing budgeting systems and financial records which are compatible with accounting and reporting systems.

  • Experience in Interpreting financial reports and advising of financial decisions by providing accurate information regarding the financial status of accounts.

  • Demonstrated experience in annual budgeting and financial planning by providing allocation and expense projections.

  • Demonstrated experience in collecting, organizing, and analyzing financial and other statistical data for the preparation of financial and non-financial reports, establishing reporting deadlines, providing data for these reports, and utilizing the appropriate systems to assist with financial management responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating the purchase of supplies by identifying prospective vendors, obtaining cost estimates, selecting materials/supplies and related vendors, and overseeing the purchasing process.

  • Ability to utilize effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to handle special administrative and trouble-shooting projects by gathering information, coordinating and communicating with various units, and following through with projects to completion.

Preferred:

Education:A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Management or a related field, no experience is required. With a bachelor’s degree in fields other than those described above, 3-5 years of experience in an accounting, budgetary, or management position is required.

Skills: Strong computer skills, including the development of spreadsheets and reports using graphs and charts, are required. Good interpersonal, communication, organizational, and administrative skills required. The ability to initiate and follow through with work responsibilities and to meet deadlines with a minimum of supervision is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
