Position Summary:

Mobile Test Engineering develops solutions to test Qorvos Mobile RF and Power Management semiconductor devices.

Early samples, correlations, and production releases require our Test Engineers to have a socketed test fixture that closely matches the performance of the soldered down evaluation board in a timely manner.

The PCB Design Engineer is a new role for the purpose of supporting our test development group by evaluating current state of our PCB design techniques and processes, performing pre-tape out simulation and post-delivery characterization and data analysis to develop best practices that drive first pass success and meet days in design queue goals.

The PCB Design Engineer role will require:

PCB Design Engineering Skills:

  • A solid understanding of the physics and electrical principles of PCB design, particularly for signal integrity concerns, impedance control/matching, multi-site interactions and EMI/EMC mitigation.

  • Expert level understanding in

    • Microstrip, Coplanar Waveguide, and strip transmission linesto determine the best fit for RF performance in each PCB design
    • High speed Digital Transmission lines.
    • Power and Ground plane structures to help reduce noise in the system
  • Skilled with Altium or other PCB design software. Knowledge of DRC capabilities of the tool and implement appropriate rules to ensure first pass success of PCB designs

  • Skilled with ADS, ANSYS HFSS, RF Pro or other RF Simulation tools

  • Hands on characterization of PCBs in the lab once they are delivered, and/or after they are assembled with SMD components and socket

  • Understanding of PCB fabrication processes and ensure PCBs are designed observing the principals of Design for Manufacturability (DFM).

  • Independently determine root cause and provide reliable solutions to issues with end use application

  • Research PCB design trends and processes, and then implement those processes that improve our fixture performance.

  • Schematic entry, PCB layout and development of standards that reduce cycle time and increase first pass success. These best practices will become the standard for the PCB layout technicians.

  • Ownership of continuous improvement activities that improve PCB performance, Layout cycle time and first pass success

  • Ability to evaluate specific layouts and make decisions to either re-work areas or move forward to tape out

  • Identify and quantify PCB/socket contribution to offsets between EVB test data and Fixture test data

  • Develop methods to simulate pre-PCB tape out to mitigate offsets once PCB is delivered and assembled.

  • Minimum BSEE or equivalent with at least 5years experience simulating RF PCB Performance

Test Engineering Skills:

  • Possess a solid understanding of RF, DC, and Digital measurements made during Production Test to validate datasheet specifications and device performance for several families of parts. Several examples: Gain, Insertion Loss, EVM, oise Figure, ACLR, ACP, Leakage Current, Isolation.

  • Detailed correlation analysis between data taken using socketed production test fixture and soldered down evaluation board
