Greenwich Country Day School is an independent, co-educational day school with a current enrollment of over 1400 students in grades N-12, and a faculty and staff of over 350. The original Old Church Road campus is home to grades N-8. The High School, established in 2019, is located less than two miles away on Stanwich Road. Greenwich Country Day School seeks a dynamic and passionate Maker/Woodshop Educator to join our vibrant Upper Elementary and Middle School community in August 2025 . This role offers a unique opportunity to cultivate a love of making and design in students through hands-on, project-based learning. The ideal candidate will be a skilled craftsperson and educator with a deep understanding of woodworking, design principles, and the developmental needs of upper elementary and middle school students. You will play a vital role in empowering students to explore their creativity, problem-solve, and build confidence through the design and fabrication process.

Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership:
Design and deliver engaging, age-appropriate maker/woodshop curriculum aligned with GCDS's educational philosophy.
Facilitate hands-on projects that integrate design thinking, problem-solving, and craftsmanship.
Teach fundamental woodworking skills, tool safety, and material properties.
Incorporate digital design tools (e.g., CAD software, 3D modeling) where appropriate.
Foster a safe and collaborative learning environment that encourages experimentation and innovation.
Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback. 1
Woodshop Management:
Knowledge of woodshop equipment
Maintain a well-organized and safe woodshop environment.
Oversee tool maintenance, inventory management, and material procurement.
Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
Co-manage the woodshop with other faculty members.
Student Support & Collaboration:
Provide individualized support and guidance to students.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate maker/woodshop activities into interdisciplinary projects.
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
Contribute to co-curricular activities.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., education, industrial arts, design, fine arts).
Demonstrated experience in woodworking, design, and fabrication.
Experience working with upper elementary and/or middle school students.
Strong understanding of child development and learning principles.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to safety and best practices in a maker/woodshop environment.
Ability to inspire and motivate students.
Commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in education or a related field.
Experience teaching design thinking, project-based learning, or STEM-related subjects.
Proficiency in digital design tools (e.g., CAD software, 3D modeling).
Experience with integrating technology into maker/woodshop activities.
Experience with curriculum development.
Experience with coaching or advising.
