Job Description
As a Vehicle System Engineer, you will collaborate with designers, customers, system suppliers, and service and manufacturing engineers. This role requires you to be the technical representative to project teams, suppliers, customers, and external parties. You will serve as the interface point with customers on technical design solutions and resolve design open points. You will also analyze diagnostic and maintenance data and define system specifications in compliance with customer technical specifications.
Responsibilities
Understand vehicle system functions and analyze diagnostic and maintenance data.
Define system specifications in compliance with customer technical specifications.
Review and analyze system technical specifications.
Review definitions of system work breakdown structures and bill of materials.
Provide internal technical design support, review, and discussion within engineering and core teams.
Interface with customers on technical issues and align with the design system engineering team.
Improve vehicle assembly processes, maintenance, and procedures.
Contribute to the assessment of RAMS performance and identify necessary RAMS requirements to ensure project targets are met.
Support design department in improving vehicle system design, functions, and integration.
Review RAMS of systems during commissioning and warranty periods.
Interface with design, service, and manufacturing engineers in failure analysis and root cause research.
Identify and analyze non-conformities during validation.
Perform concurrent engineering design reviews and analysis to ensure reliability and maintainability of products.
Essential Skills
Expertise with SAP
Experience in railcar engineering and systems engineering
Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Excel
Knowledge of electrical and mechanical validation
Experience in rail transportation
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Master’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics Engineering
2 years of experience in railway vehicle systems design or vehicle maintenance engineering
Expertise in interpreting electrical, pneumatic, system specification software, and mechanical drawings
Knowledge of railway vehicle system functions
Ability to analyze and correlate data from various sources (e.g., vehicle diagnostic events, maintenance reports)
Knowledge in defining maintenance and troubleshooting procedures
Understanding of statistical analysis including RAMS
Work Environment
This position is 100% onsite at a state-of-the-art facility in Hagerstown, known for its technological advancements. The facility produces modern railcars for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) and the broader North American market. It is designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating energy-efficient technologies, a local supply chain, job creation initiatives, advanced insulation, energy-efficient lighting, HVAC systems, solar panels, water conservation systems, comprehensive recycling programs, and eco-friendly construction materials. The facility also features a robot dog used for testing railcars.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
Full benefits include PTO, medical, dental vision. Will update this with more information upon qualification process.
