Your role as a Technician, Facilities Maintenance
As a Full-Time Technician in Facilities Maintenance at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will play a critical role in ensuring our facilities operate smoothly and efficiently. Your responsibilities will involve performing routine building maintenance tasks, including carpentry, electrical work, HVAC, and plumbing. You will inspect buildings and equipment for malfunctions, execute minor electrical repairs such as fixture replacements, and handle plumbing tasks like fixing leaks and unclogging drains.
Additionally, you'll be responsible for maintaining electrical switchboards, conducting minor painting and carpentry work, and optimizing office spaces by reconfiguring furniture and equipment. This dynamic role requires flexibility, including a rotation of 24/7 on-call duties to quickly address any building or equipment failures. You'll also maintain accurate maintenance records, contributing to the overall functionality of our community-serving facilities.

What we're looking for in a Technician, Facilities Maintenance
To thrive as a Full-Time Technician in Facilities Maintenance at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will need a blend of technical skills and practical experience. A minimum of two years of experience in building maintenance is essential, providing you with the foundational knowledge required for this role. A basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work will greatly enhance your ability to perform various maintenance tasks effectively. Additionally, a valid Virginia Driver's License is necessary, as you will frequently operate agency vehicles to support maintenance operations across our facilities.
Proficiency in using specialized tools and software relevant to maintenance tasks is advantageous, ensuring you can tackle repairs and inspections efficiently. The knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Two (2) years experience in building maintenance.
- A basic understanding of electrical plumbing and carpentry is a plus.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License. Frequently operates agency vehicles.
