The American Express Global Privacy Office are trusted advisors on the American Express Data Protection & Privacy Principles. We work to raise privacy awareness, drive compliance with both internal privacy policies and regulatory expectations across the organization and establish privacy as a strategic differentiator for the American Express brand.

As a second line of defense function, Global Privacy oversee, provide expertise in, and challenge the identification, management, and mitigation of privacy risks across the company in line with the privacy framework and the company’s vision to provide the world’s best customer experience every day.

This position is based in India and reports to the VP, Global Privacy Program.

How will you make an impact in this role?

Core Responsibilities include:

Lead the Global Privacy Monitoring & Testing Program. Oversee the end-to-end program from design/planning to execution, reporting and remediation.

  • Continuous Monitoring: Develop and implement continuous monitoring programs to track adherence to the American Express Data Protection and Privacy Principles and accompanying privacy laws, regulations, and internal policies, ensuring timely identification and resolution of non-adherence issues.

  • Risk Identification: Identify and evaluate privacy risks through detailed monitoring activities.

  • Testing Controls: Design and execute testing protocols to assess the effectiveness of privacy controls and data protection measures across various departments and processes.

  • Reporting: Prepare high-quality reports summarizing findings and present to senior leaders. Lead discussions to clearly articulate issues and risks identified.

  • Collaboration: Build strong collaborative relationship and work closely with various departments, including Compliance, Cybersecurity, Third-Party, Data Management, General Counsel’s Office, and Control Management teams to ensure a cohesive approach to privacy testing.

  • Leadership & Coaching: Effectively lead a geographically diverse team of privacy and data analytic professionals.

  • Regulatory Monitoring: Keep abreast of existing and emerging privacy risks and changes to AXP’s business strategy or operations and the impact on monitoring and testing activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Fifteen (15) or more years’ experience in an Audit or Testing role in a highly regulated domain or relevant experience in consultancy within the Big Four or in a bank/financial institution background.

  • Strong knowledge of privacy/compliance laws and industry best practices.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, competing priorities under demanding deadlines.

  • High ethical standards and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

  • Strong strategic thinker with the ability to look longer-term from a risk management perspective and deliver initiatives to advance the maturity and soundness of the control environment.

  • Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills, with strong learning agility and willingness to embrace and lead through change.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, able to create compelling arguments and influence across all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent relationship building skills to partner effectively across diverse, cross-functional teams in complex and rapidly changing environments.

  • Experience leading, engaging and motivating diverse teams through complexities to deliver results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference shall be given to candidate with CA/LLB/CS/CIA/Master’s Degree/CIPP Privacy certification.
