Job Summary
The Stacks Management Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the stacks maintenance unit, including supervision of student employees. The work includes providing courteous and efficient service to patrons of Cook Library. The position performs a variety of other support functions, including monetary responsibilities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates the daily operations of stacks maintenance. Tasks include, but are not limited to: Ensures the integrity of the building to include its physical condition, safety, and appropriate use; Makes shelving assignments and ensures that assigned areas appear neat and orderly; Designs, develops, and supervises short- and long-range plans regarding the physical management of the collections; Marks items used in-house in the library management system (LMS); Monitors shelving accuracy; Conducts student maintenance checklists; Performs basic preservation on materials as needed; Recommends policies and procedures that improve services and prepares monthly reports.
Supervises student employees. Tasks include, but are not limited to: Hires, evaluates, and terminates student employees; trains newly hired student employees and provides on-going training as needed; Schedules and makes work assignments, reviews and approves student time sheets, and models good work habits for others; Resolves routine problems; Identifies and refers complex problems to supervisor .
Assists with daily operations of the circulation desk. Tasks include, but are not limited to: Provides excellent customer service and timely response to patron requests; Assists patrons according to established policies and procedures, addresses patron complaints and problems patiently and proactively, and resolves routine problems; identifies and refers complex problems to supervisor; Works evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Performs financial responsibilities. Tasks include, but are not limited to: Collects and counts money accepted at the circulation desk on a daily basis; Reconciles petty cash daily and reports any discrepancy to the supervisor. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of coursework at an accredited college or university plus one year of experience working in a library, OR three years of experience working in a library.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of customer service principles;
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, as appropriate for the needs of an audience;
Ability to handle multiple assignments and projects effectively;
Self-motivated to set priorities and work with limited direction/supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of library operations, especially call number system; Experience working in an academic (higher education) library; Experience working in library circulation or other library public service area; Supervisory experience.
