Job Summary and Qualifications

The RN Manager of Med/Surg ensures high quality, patient-centered care through oversight of the overall daily function and staffing of the unit/department. The Manager monitors and evaluates the provision of nursing care in accordance with established policies/procedures and holds staff accountable for quality and clinical outcomes in support of facility objectives.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice or compact state required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required, Master's Degree in Nursing preferred

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of hire

  • 2 years of related clinical leadership experience required

What you will do in this role:

  • Provide oversight for care of all patients on unit, providing support and expertise to staff.

  • Assess patient care for staff adherence to quality care policies, procedures and processes.

  • Interact with others utilizing professional and appropriate interpersonal communication skills.

  • Responsible for workflow of unit by ensuring proper staff levels; adherence to productivity and budget guidelines.

  • Ensure quality of patient care and assists in patient care as necessary.

  • Manage staffing needs and personnel management; including interviewing, hiring and orientation of new staff members.

  • Create an environment and culture that enables the department to fulfill the mission of the hospital and meet or exceed goals.

  • Collaborate with Director in the development and implementation of strategic plan and initiatives.

  • Collaborate with Director for the financial viability of the department.

  • Ensure the supply of appropriate resources to support the programs, services, organizational structure and staffing levels necessary for quality services.

  • Collaborate with Director to provide coaching and disciplinary action as required.

  • Establish operations and processes to support, facilitate, and maintain uniform performance of patient care including documentation.

  • Provide a safe, secure, and infection/hazard-free environment.

  • Direct the development, implementation, and monitoring of the quality metrics.

  • Facilitate interdepartmental collaborative relationships.

  • Ensure adherence to patient experience and patient satisfaction initiatives and interactions.

  • Demonstrate ethical standards in customer service through all interactions with the patients, families, co-workers, staff, other hospital departments, physicians, community and others.

  • Create a high quality, professional clinical environment to facilitate the necessary recruitment and retention of appropriate numbers of qualified staff.

  • Assist the Director to ensure timely assessment of competencies and performance of staff.

  • Facilitate educational opportunities for the staff.

  • Maintain ethical compliance with regulatory/accreditation agencies.

TriStar Summit is a 200 bed comprehensive facility. We serve Davidson, Wilson and surrounding counties. We include a Level III Trauma Center. We offer a full array of acute care services. These include cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics/spine, rehabilitation and women’s services. We are an Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI. We are a Primary Stroke Center.
