Job Summary and Qualifications
The Child Life Specialist provides high-quality, patient-centered care by managing the complete process of occupational therapeutic care of an assigned group of patients, in coordination with the physician and the patient care team. The Occupational Therapist completes patient assessments, and participates in developing and implementing individualized care plans, focusing on goal achievement, patient engagement, and positive patient experience. The Occupational Therapist provides or directs a majority of the patient’s physical therapy to support patients throughout home health and the continuum of care.
What you will do in this role:
Under the supervision of the Pediatric Director of Rehabilitation, the CCLS is responsible for planning, organizing and conducting Child Life programs for inpatient infants, children and their families designed to support the developmental progression of the individual infant, child and family during hospitalization.
Participates in establishing, maintaining, and improving patient’s health care goals through patient assessment, planning and implementation of child life interventions and evaluation of patient outcomes.
Fulfills the duty and responsibility to maintain competence and to continue personal and professional growth.
Observes patient safety, risk management and infection control policies and procedures.
Educates patients in terms they understand and within their paradigm to maximize their ability to comply with their discharge instructions.
Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit and with other service areas.

What qualifications you will need:
Education required and/or preferred:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Child Life/Child Development.
Completion of internship in a Child Life Program .
PREFERRED:
- Master’s degree and or completion of a Fellowship program following completion of a B.S. degree.
Licensure/Certification
REQUIRED:
Certification in Child Life, or meet all certification eligibility requirements and pass the certification exam within six (6) months of hire.
BCLS
Experience required or preferred:
REQUIRED:
- Minimum of two (2) years pediatric experience.
PREFERRED:
- NICU experience.
