Position Summary:

The Clinical Counselor for the Rice Counseling Center will provide individual, group, and couples counseling and psychotherapy, crisis intervention, outreach programming for Rice undergraduate and graduate students. They will also provide consultations on psychological issues for faculty, staff, students, and student family members. The Clinical Counselor will also supervise practicum students as needed.

Workplace Requirements:

This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person at Rice University, 30 hours a week, 10 months a year, Monday - Friday, 11 AM - 5 PM. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range: The expected hiring range is $58,000 to $60,000 annually, contingent upon qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, or psychology
    • LPC, LMFT, LCSW, LMSW, or PhD
  • 2 years related experience working with young adult populations in a therapeutic setting
    • No substitutions for education or experience allowed

Skills:

  • Ability to provide psychotherapy and/or counseling to a culturally diverse young adult population
  • Some leadership or supervisor experience
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaboratively work with interdisciplinary team members, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability

Preferences:

  • PhD in psychology
  • Experience
    • Two years of more in related experience in a college or university counseling center
    • Experience in adolescent therapy
    • Experience in Brief Solution Focused Counseling
    • Experience in Crisis Intervention
    • Experience in using software system Titanium

Essential Functions:

  • Provides individual and couples counseling and psychotherapy, crisis intervention, outreach programming for Rice students, and consultations on psychological issues for faculty, staff, and students
  • Coordinates the Center's campus mental health educational outreach efforts with Rice Counseling Center clinical staff
  • Writes concise notes and excellent maintenance of files
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Additional Functions

  • Meets with the Clinical Director of the Rice Counseling Center weekly
  • Supervises practicum students
  • Must be able to take on-call evenings and weekends on rotation
  • Reports utilization numbers to the Associate Dean of Students when needed
