Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Controller to join our Non-profit organization in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in financial management, accounting, and compliance, with an understanding of the unique financial needs of non-profit entities. Experience with Yardi is highly desirable but not required. This position will report directly to the VP of Finance and play a critical role in overseeing the organization’s financial operations to ensure integrity, transparency, and alignment with our mission.

Non-Profit Controller Responsibilities:

• Manage all accounting operations, including the preparation of financial statements, budgets, and variance reports.

• Ensure compliance with GAAP and non-profit accounting regulations.

• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliation of accounts.

• Develop and manage internal control policies and procedures to safeguard assets.

• Lead audits and coordinate with external auditors.

• Prepare and present financial reports to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.

• Oversee payroll, grant accounting, and restricted funds management.

• Assist with the preparation of the annual operating budget and monitoring of cash flow.

• Ensure timely filing of tax returns and other regulatory filings.

  Requirements

Non-Profit Controller Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).

• 7+ years of experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 3 years in a Controller or similar role.

• Experience in non-profit accounting and understanding of fund accounting.

• Familiarity with Yardi software is a plus.

• Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.

• Strong understanding of financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, and audit processes.

• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
