DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The Epidemiologist Biostatistician will function in support of the General Surveillance Unit in the Bureau of Epidemiology. This position will provide support for routine and outbreak investigations for notifiable conditions and emerging diseases of public health importance. This position may serve in support of outbreak response that may require work outside of routine office hours.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
Prepares routine and ad hoc reports for General Surveillance Unit within the Bureau of Epidemiology. Requires familiarity with HEDSS and NEDSS as well as supporting software.
Prepares ad hoc reports for emerging diseases of public health importance in support of case investigation and disease prevention.
Develops and runs specific software programs to perform analytic tasks and generate reports.
Provides support to management in obtaining and analyzing data for the purposes of surveillance program evaluation.
Supports field investigations and surveillance of disease and bioterrorism related activities and is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to respond to suspected outbreaks.
Serves as subject matter expert on epidemiology, biostatistics, and disease control.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor or manager.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or Biostatistics with at least two advanced statistical courses taken during graduate program.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of experience in public health, epidemiology, or biostatistics; with at least two years of biostatistics experience. Candidates must pass a skills test in statistical or script development programming.

None.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

GRANT FUND POSITION
Grants & Special fund positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
