Shape Technologies Group Machinist in Houston, Texas
Description
General Purpose:
Performs complex machining operations in support of manufacturing activities from a variety of rough sketches or drawings that serve as input. Work is completed under direction and/or guidance of the department Lead.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Working from drawings and engineering instructions, build to specification parts, tools or fixtures for development, model shop or prototype projects.
Set up and operate equipment such as lathes, drills, screw and milling machines.
Executes assignments using manual and CNC mills and lathes and other available tooling.
Determine and prepare and jigs or special attachments needed.
Read and interpret blueprints or drawings necessary to complete assignments. Prepare own layouts.
Use micrometers, vernier calipers and other precision measuring tools to ensure in-process or that finished product matches specified tolerances.
Perform maintenance and cleanup of work area.
Perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions using precision measuring tools.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Solid working knowledge of shop mathematics.
Intermediate level of analytical ability where problems are complex.
Good verbal communication skills.
Ability to operate various tools and equipment.
Ability to work independently and function effectively in a team environment.
Intermediate level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
Swiss Screw Machine experience desirable.
Supervisory Responsibility:
None.
Education and/or Training:
High school diploma or equivalent training.
Minimum of two (2) years machine operations experience and/or enrollment and completion of apprentice program.
Preference given to candidates with experience on screw machines.
