Houston Forensic Science Center, Inc Senior Systems Analyst in Houston, Texas

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Information Technology (IT) Manager, the IT Systems Analyst will play a critical role in ensuring the operability of essential IT systems. This position requires a candidate with several years of experience, proficient in managing complex tasks, and capable of acting as a liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders. The analyst will perform both support and system analyst responsibilities, focusing on enhancing system performance and supporting end-users.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Administering IT Technical Documentation Control.

  • Engaging with stakeholders to gather requirements and assure infrastructure performance aligns with end-user expectations.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving end-user connectivity issues.

  • Assisting in the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of core business applications, including application servers, hardware, endpoints, and databases.

  • Conducting research on hardware or software products to fulfill technical, database, networking, or security needs.

  • Perform support, troubleshooting, performance monitoring/tuning for the data networks. Which includes WAN, LAN, VPN, Wi-Fi networks

  • Provide recommendations for network improvements, optimization, and deployment plans.

  • Perform implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network components to ensure maximum up time and optimal refresh intervals.

  • Provide network documentation, training, and team guidance.

  • Provide a strong background in cloud/virtual networking and able to optimize network configuration to allow cloud systems to scale.

  • Configuring security settings and access permissions for individuals and groups.

  • Perform support, troubleshooting, performance monitoring/tuning for the databases.

  • Perform data analysis and reporting for business decision-making.

  • Assisting with IT infrastructure support and inventory management administration.

  • Administering Azure, M365 tools, including Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.

  • Oversee system performance, optimization, and ensure continuous improvement.

  • Collaborating with the IT team to develop solutions and build a knowledge base aimed at streamlining systems.

  • Participating in after-hours on-call rotation.

  • Participates in Change Management process.

  • Provide troubleshooting and support to end-users.

  • Performing other duties as directed by the IT Manager.

Required Experience:

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field required. Experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

  • Minimum 4-6 years applicable experience in information technologies and systems analysis is required.

  • Experience installing, configuring, documenting, testing, training, and implementing new applications, infrastructures, databases, and systems.

KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENT

  • Demonstrated expertise with technical systems and applications.

  • Broad understanding of programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL), database management (e.g., MSSQL), system integration, and enterprise applications.

  • Proficiency in diagramming tools (e.g., Visio) with a strong capability in creating comprehensive documentation for infrastructure designs and disaster recovery plans.

  • Network protocols including DHCP, DNS, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF and L2/L3 switching protocols and network security.

  • Virtualization Networking specifically within VMWare and Azure environments

  • Experience with Cisco routers, switches, firewall and wireless hardware.

  • Experience with SolarWinds Network Management suite of applications.

  • LAN/Wan Configuration and Management.

  • A working knowledge of Advanced Windows Domain administration. This would include Active Directory, Group Policy, Sites and Services, DNS, and DHCP.

  • A working knowledge of troubleshooting/ monitoring tools.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, troubleshoot effectively, and make timely and sound decisions.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and service-oriented attitude.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
