Job Description

Job Summary:

The DMC Training Lead is a Level III management position that oversees the DMC Trainees and DMC Training Team. The DMC Training Lead is responsible for coordinating all of the training required for certification as a DMC. This includes Space Ops Academy, DMC Classes, Walkabout, Scenarios and Sims, and On-the-Job Training (OJT). They also update and manage the Individual Training Plans (ITP), Proficiency and Currency Plans (PCP), training classes, and other training material with support from the appropriate DMC Specialists, Technical Team Lead, and Flight Ops Lead. The DMC Training Lead represents the DMC Team in training forums such as Sim Planning Group (SPG) and Training Panel. The DMC Training Lead will provide status updates to both contractor and civil servant branch representatives through the Space Systems Operations (SSO) Leads Tag or on an as needed basis for items related to training quality or status.

Requirements: Must currently possess and maintain a DMC certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Responsible for managing the onboard International Space Station (ISS) data, video, and network systems in the capture and downlink of various types of scientific and operational data that is generated during real-time payload operations.

  • Knowledgeable in communications, networks, and command systems and is responsible for maintaining an in-depth knowledge of the ISS onboard data, video, and network systems that are configured, monitored, and managed to support real-time science payload operations.

  • DMC team supports real-time operations seven days a week, twenty-four hours per day.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and a minimum of 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of ISS ops a plus.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.

  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data or process information.

Other Essential Duties

  • Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.

Other Qualifications

  • US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
