Cape Abilities Controller in Hyannis, Massachusetts

The Controller is a key member of the agency\'s leadership team with responsibilities for maintaining & continuously improving the systems of financial controls, general accounting, tax & regulatory compliance, budgeting & financial planning, banking & cash management, payroll, & internal & external reporting. As leader, this role provides critical support to the CFO & other members of the senior team within a dynamic organization. The ideal Controller possesses attributes of curiosity, proactivity, professionalism, critical thinking & efficiency. JOB FUNCTIONS Internal controls Designs &/or monitors internal controls that are implemented to protect agency assets & compliance. Develops &/or revises financial policies & procedures that ensure agency safety & soundness while supporting operational efficiencies. Performs &/or reviews account reconciliations to support monthly, quarterly & annual accounting. Audit & external reporting & compliance Leads annual financial statement audits for the agency, affiliates & pension plan. Gathers & supplies information/documentation to external auditors & regulators to support timely & quality audits. Manages &/or oversees all tax & compliance reporting including Form 990, UFR, HUD, & debt & bond issuances, etc. Accounting, budgeting & internal reporting Maintains, reviews & updates general ledger chart of accounts in support of agency accounting & reporting needs, including restricted funding & other business requirements. Leads initiatives to improve efficiencies & timeliness of accounting & reporting through use of technology, including subledgers, banking platforms, & other systems. Leads & manages annual agency budgets. Meets with department leaders & stakeholders, prepares budget schedules, & guides budgets in support of institutional strategic planning. Manages monthly financial closing with focus on accuracy & timeliness. Supports effective financial management & reporting by analyzing monthly financial results, researching expected vs. actual results (revenue expenses & balance sheet), making recommendations for corrective actions as needed, & developing reforecasts of projects financial results. Oversees completion & distribution of monthly performance metrics & dashboards to Program, Development & Social Enterprise teams to support their business operations. Meets with stakeholders as needed to drive business efficiencies & informed decision-making. Supports CFO & other stakeholders to design & run financial reports needed to inform business decisions. Management & operations Possesses professional & technical knowledge of matters including state & federal contracts, accounting & reporting, & tax & compliance. Develop & deliver internal training to stakeholders within Programs, Development, & Social Enterprises to support their business needs as well as timely & quality accounting & reporting. Manages & leads Finance team members through regular training, coaching, & mentoring. Delegates tasks to team members & monitors performance. Ensures Finance team members are knowledgeable & equipped to execute their roles & deliver against quality & timeline expectations. Evaluates staffing for ability to meet business & compliance needs. Maintains updated job descriptions & documentation of job tasks to support efficient transitions resulting from changes in staffing. PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Bachelor\'s degree in business or accounting required, CPA desired. Minimum of five years\' experience working in an accounting capacity (nonprofit experience preferred). Experience with Blackbaud or similar financial systems valuable. Strong knowledge of Excel.
