The Data Governance Specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining an effective data governance framework to ensure organisational data's accuracy, completeness, and reliability. This role involves working closely with engineering teams to develop, implement and govern usage and licensing metrics, standards, and procedures aligning with the company's strategic goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement data governance policies, procedures, and standards that comply with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

  • Review usage and licensing metrics/definitions in the system. This involves reviewing/writing scripts in JavaScript. Validation of output to ensure meaningful data collection.

  • Supporting dashboard data modeling, querying for data in the BigData/snowflake environment and providing insights on raw data.

  • Work collaboratively with IT, legal, compliance, and business stakeholders to define and implement usage data governance policies, standards, and procedures.

  • Monitor and manage data quality issues, identify root causes, and develop strategies to remediate data quality issues.

  • Establish data ownership and stewardship roles and responsibilities and ensure compliance with these roles across the organization.

  • Work with data owners and stewards to define data quality metrics and monitor progress against them.

  • Develop and implement data classification schemes and ensure compliance with data privacy and security regulations.

  • Establish data lifecycle management processes and ensure adherence to them across the organization.

  • Develop and implement data retention and disposition policies and procedures.

  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of the data governance program, including compliance with policies and procedures, data quality metrics, and remediation progress.

  • Develop and deliver data governance training programs to increase awareness and understanding of data governance policies, standards, and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in data governance or related field.

  • Strong knowledge of database systems, and expertise in SQL and Python.

  • Good to have JavaScript experience.

  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, principles, and best practices.

  • Experience with data quality management, data privacy, and data security regulations.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

  • ServiceNow platform and scripting knowledge

  • Experience in developing and implementing data governance frameworks and policies

  • Experience with data modeling and metadata management

  • Experience with data lineage and impact analysis tools

  • Knowledge of any data visualization tool is good to have
