Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a well-qualified Postdoctoral Associate in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Economics, Business or a related field for the Systems Analyses and Engineering Department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. You will report to your group lead and department manager.
You will have a demonstrated proficiency in statistics, mathematics, programming (Python, Java), systems modeling (system dynamics, agent-based modeling) or other quantitative fields that can be used in operations research, management science and supply chain modeling.
Responsibilities Include:
- Work in a multi-disciplinary team using a wide range of modeling tools and approaches to solve problems across bioenergy, electric vehicle, batteries, supply chain resilience and manufacturing.
- Help develop current and new projects at the INL using computational approaches including discrete event simulation, system dynamics and agent-based modeling. These computational and analysis resources include development and deployment of high-performance computing solutions, analysis tools, web-based software, and database interface solutions to enhance model platforms and frameworks for both internal and external collaborators.
- Support INL leadership in meeting Department of Energy and industry expectations and deliverables, and INL internal reporting metrics.
- Be a strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work both alone and as a team member.
- Must be self-motivated but also take direction from other team members and peers while consistently accomplishing scope within cost and schedule.
- Contributing to the external technical reputation of INL through major contributions to presentations, reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, invention disclosures, and other professional activities.
*Minimum Requirements: *
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Economics, Business or a related field.
- Ph.D. requirements must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the past 5 years.
- Demonstrated proficiency in statistics, mathematics, programming, systems modeling or other quantitative field that can be used in operations research, management science and supply chain modeling.
- Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills (in English).
- Experience in computational analysis and model development using a range of systems modeling tools.
- A developing good publication record in relevant fields of research.
*Desired Requirements: *
- Demonstrated understanding of supply chain systems and markets.
- Experience with a range of analysis software and tools such as Discrete Event Simulation, System Dynamics, Agent-based Modeling, statistical analysis software and life cycle analysis tools.
- Experience in techno-economic and life cycle assessment.
- Experience with proposal writing.
- Proficient in Python or Java with experience developing interfaces and machine learning tools.

- The salary for this position is $101,196.00 annually. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
- TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
