Position Summary

Agency Summary

The Marion County Clerk is the custodian of all court records, serves as the court’s fiscal agent, trustee of child support payments, and issues marriage licenses.

Incumbent is responsible for a variety of clerical functions in the case management system. Provides prompt, professional, and courteous service to members of the public, primarily in-person, but also by phone, email, or in writing. Receives and processes cash, check, and credit card payments. Follows established policies and procedures, is well organized, and detail oriented. Works cooperatively within a team environment to ensure all tasks are completed timely.

Requires proficient knowledge of and strict adherence to requirements and regulations related to the filing of legal documents and court proceedings; accessing court services; accessibility of court records, especially confidential records; and various fees and payment processes.

Position Responsibilities

  • Processes applications and issues marriage licenses

  • Receives and processes payments for various court fines, fees, judgments, and other orders

  • Receives protective order applications and subsequent court filings

  • Retrieves and responds to court record requests, payment histories, and other records

  • Responds to inquiries and requests for information from other agencies and members of the public

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of previous clerical experience required. Must be able to communicate effectively orally, verbally, and in written formats. Attention to detail is a priority. Requires great customer service skills and promotes teamwork.

Preferred Job Requirements and Qualifications

Associates degree or some post-secondary education. Clerical experience in a court or similar legal setting.
