V2X is growing! V2X is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Bomb Racks and Launchers Design to join our team!
V2X Engineering is seeking a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN supporting development of a diverse set of mission critical products including advanced airborne systems, podded communication link and sensor systems, armament equipment, cutting edge system integrations, radar systems, cockpit displays, and avionics. This position will focus on airborne armament equipment but may support the diverse program set at V2X. Our Indianapolis facility also supports a variety of other product lines serving multiple Department of Defense (DoD) customers providing the opportunity to work on a diverse set of programs and roles supporting the continued advancement of your career and opportunity for rapid career advancement.
The Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design of new products and test hardware, as well as the improvement of existing products. The engineer will utilize their mechanical engineering expertise during the proposal and concept generation phase, product development, production, and qualification testing phases of new product design. The engineer must be comfortable designing systems with complex mechanical mechanisms including the kinematic and dynamic analysis of those mechanisms as well as evaluating the tolerances with the mechanism. The engineer will have the opportunity to design creative solutions that meet product requirements. The engineer shall be proficient with 3D modeling, and will be hands-on supporting production, integration, and testing. The engineer must be a resourceful researcher engaging vendors, manufacturers, and SME’s regarding design decisions. The engineer will take part in design reviews at both part, subsystem and system level including Peer Reviews, DFMAs, PDRs, and CDRs, and Safety Board Reviews. The engineer will provide leadership on mechanical designs and provide mentorship to junior engineers, as well as work closely with systems, electrical, test, and production engineers.

Required Skills:
Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance
Ability to work onsite at our Indianapolis, Indiana facility with an Integrated Product Team being hands on with hardware.
A minimum of 10 years professional work experience required.
Experience in the design, integration, or testing of mechanical components and assemblies
Mechanism Design: Expertise in the design and analysis of mechanisms (linkages, cams, gears, springs, etc.)
Kinematic Analysis: Proficiency in kinematic analysis techniques, including motion simulation and analysis software (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, ADAMS, ANSYS Motion)
Airborne Hardware: Demonstrated experience with the design, analysis, and testing of airborne hardware, considering factors such as weight, size, environmental conditions, aerodynamic and inertial forces.
Competent using 3-D CAD Modeling Tools (CREO preferred)
Working knowledge of data management systems (Windchill preferred)
Proficient in application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, (ASME Y14.5 standards)
Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to be adaptable to changing priorities and assignments
Performing trade studies
Must be a self-starter, a quick learner, and be able to function in a dynamic environment, and have good time management skills.
Must have strong teaming skills, and good communication skills.
Demonstrated Creative thinking and problem solving
Understanding of manufacturing processes including traditional CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, mechanical assemblies, water jet, laser, welding, EDM, additive manufacturing, etc.
Understanding of aerospace materials and coatings
Desired Skills:
Experience capturing key characteristics & requirements for systems
Air Armament Systems: Experience in designing and integrating air armament systems including bomb racks, launchers, podded systems, guns, into aircraft platforms.
Experience with High Pressure Pneumatics
Military Standards: Familiarity and experience in applying relevant military stands to include:
MIL-STD-882: System Safety
MIL-STD-2088: Bomb Rack Design
MIL-STD-8591: Design Criteria for Airborne Stores, Suspension Equipment, and Aircraft-Store Interface
MIL-T-7743: Testing, Store Suspension and Release Equipment
Military Safety Boards: Experience participating in or supporting military safety boards and investigations
Design for human factors/safety
Prototyping and agile methodologies

Education Requirements:
