Boehringer Ingelheim Scientific Communications Manager in Ingelheim, Germany

The Position

The Scientific Communications Manager at Boehringer Ingelheim is in charge of creating and implementing the scientific communication content strategy for specific assets. They collaborate with Therapeutic Area asset teams, key cross-functional stakeholders, and (R)OPUs to strategically plan and develop scientific communications content for both internal and external use. Their role is dynamic, requiring agility and innovation to deliver state-of-the-art, patient- and customer-centric materials.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will define the global scientific communications content strategy for a Therapeutic Area or Indication/Asset based on TA/Asset strategy & translate into specific (short- and mid-term) publication activities and medical information responses. This also includes managing the functional processes for strategic scientific communication planning, including strategic plan development, approval and internal communication.

  • You will manage the functional processes for timely scientific communications content development and release them with support from the GTM Medical Operations Services Team.

  • Furthermore, you will implement operational changes as well as support functional process implementation in (R)OPUs to ensure adherence to Corporate SOP as well as timely release of unbiased and accurate scientific information.

  • You will select and manage external service providers based on the global scientific communications sourcing strategy. This involves actively identifying and screening for service providers to maintain high quality, innovation, and competitive pricing.

  • Moreover, you will create and manage yearly budgets in collaboration with budget owners and line Managers, ensuring overall alignment with allocated annual budget.

  • For the Therapeutic Area or Indication/Asset specific scientific communication, you will serve as functional subject matter experts for provision of compliant, comprehensive and useful scientific communications content strategies, best practices and ethical standards and understanding of scientific communication processes.

Requirements

  • Scientific or clinical degree (e.g. M.S., PhD, MD, PharmD) or longstanding experience in a similar role

  • Several years’ experience in Medical Affairs/Medical Information/Publication Management in the pharmaceutical industry or editorial, publishing and writing experience at a medical communications agency

  • Strong experience working with external experts/author, in external vendor + budget management and in working in in cross-functional global teams and multi country organization

  • Strong process management skills, experience leading cross-functional teams and developing plans, scope definition and presentations

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong results orientation and the ability to work independently as well as to negotiate and influence across a matrix & cross-functional organization

  • Fluency in oral and written English; further language skills would be an asset
