Harris & Associates VP of Construction (Transportation) in Irvine, California
The Vice President of Transportation Construction plays a key role in achieving Harris' strategic roadmap market positioning, talent acquisition, and financial goals with a focus on transportation infrastructure projects. This position demands a deep understanding of roadway bridge, and transit construction, with significant experience working with Caltrans, and transit agencies standards, guidelines, and compliance. The VP will oversee large-scale projects related to roads, highways, bridges, and transit ensuring they meet client, regulatory, and safety standards while driving profitability, efficiency, and operational excellence. The position will also be responsible for meeting the firmwide PM/CM sales goals for transportation.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the transportation business unit with strategic oversight for roadway, bridge, and transportation-related projects.
• Oversee operational management, resource allocation, and financial performance of the business unit, focusing on delivering transportation projects on time and within budget.
• Develop and execute strategic plans for growth, ensuring the unit remains competitive in securing and delivering complex transportation infrastructure projects.
• Act as the primary liaison with key stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, municipalities, contractors, and clients, to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Represent the company in public forums, media relations, and industry events, promoting Harris' reputation in the transportation construction space.
• Direct the financial performance of projects, ensuring effective cost control, project delivery, and client satisfaction.
• Expanding on market brand, client management, capture strategy plans, etc.
• Champion risk management efforts across all projects, focusing on safety, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices.
• Lead the development and implementation of business plans that align with broader corporate goals, incorporating emerging trends in transportation and construction technology.
• Guide and mentor senior project managers, fostering talent development and ensuring high levels of engagement across the team.
• Ensure adherence to safety and environmental standards and drive the adoption of innovative technologies to improve efficiency and project outcomes.
• Address complex challenges that arise in the execution of transportation projects, including regulatory, technical, and stakeholder-related issues.
SCOPE:
• Lead multiple teams of senior managers and directors overseeing transportation infrastructure projects across various sectors.
• Manage a diverse operational budget with a focus on optimizing resource allocation for large-scale transportation projects.
• Establish and implement short- and long-term strategies, ensuring alignment with both division and corporate goals.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for the business unit, collaborating with senior management and stakeholders to influence decisions related to strategy and resource allocation.
• Act as the company spokesperson for key transportation-related initiatives, including client relationships, public outreach, and industry events.
• Drive results by overseeing the execution of projects and ensuring they meet all financial, quality, and safety objectives.
• Lead initiatives to improve project delivery, incorporating best practices and new technology to enhance the overall efficiency and success of the business unit.
Qualifications:
• 15+ years of relevant experience in transportation construction, with at least 10 years in senior management roles overseeing large infrastructure projects and business development responsibilities, including building a book of business, developing trusted clients’ relationships and developing and managing project pipeline.
• Strong background in managing complex transportation projects and familiarity with state and federal regulatory requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Registration as licensed civil/structural engineer in the State of California is strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage large-scale budgets within the transportation construction sector.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience engaging with stakeholders at all levels, including regulatory bodies, clients, and the public.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and drive results.
• A demonstrated track record of leading successful transportation projects with a focus on client satisfaction, safety, and profitability.
• Ability to travel to project sites, client meetings, and public events related to transportation infrastructure development.
