Animal Tech II - Sports Medicine

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks an Animal Tech to join the Sport Medicine and Physical Rehabilitation team. SMPR is committed to providing comprehensive treatment and care to animals utilizing a team approach along with multiple clinical services, and employing advanced and practical treatment planning, including underwater treadmill, Shockwave, acupuncture, laser, land exercises, PRP injections, etc.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the DVMs and LVTs with various tasks and treatments such as patient physical exams.
  • Animal handling for sample acquisition (blood, urine, etc.), sedation, therapeutic modality administration
  • Stock, organize, and clean clinical workspace.
  • Provide patient transport
  • Coordinate procedures with other hospital services and the Nursing Care Units, and service-related needs.
  • Receive tasks and assignments within skill set and level from clinicians and licensed veterinary technicians.

Employees working with animals must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and up to 1 year of experience working with companion animals or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiar with computer programs (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Must have a love for animals, be patient and have strong animal handling skills.
  • Meet the physical demands of the position, which include prolonged standing and kneeling, lifting and restraining animals that may exceed 50 pounds.
  • Effectively and thoroughly communicate between team members, other services, clients, clinicians, technicians, students, and referring veterinary practices.
  • Display ability to work collaboratively as a team member, and independently, in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks and cases, while paying close attention to details.
  • Highly motivated and demonstrate consistent initiative to help, learn new information, and skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience working in a Small Animal Private Practice.
  • Experience in speaking with pet owners.
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
